I studied with this amazing woman well over a decade ago. She introduced me to fascia, bones, how to slowly release. You have all heard her teaching through me. I literally use her work every day at the studio. She has been the biggest influence in my career. It deeply saddens me to hear she is coming to the end of her time on earth. What a woman, what a teacher. Her voice will live far beyond all of us through her body of work. Thank you may you have a peaceful journey beyond and you family be well looked after by your beautiful community.

Friday flash back to my early 30s! This was 14 years ago when I worked in a studio in Hunters Hill (Sydney) at the time; Pilates International. We didn’t have social media for inspiration so we would all hang back at studios and play till we came up with fun new ideas! We had some magazines for inspo 🤣 the photos that date back 20+ years ago are in a box somewhere I’ll dig out… At the time I was doing lots of yoga and loved a shoulder stand. Looks like Phoenix has come full circle! ⭕️ You body will be with you through all of the seasons. Do movement that lights you up and keeps you inspired. 💜🌼

Did you know? Sometimes we wriggle our fingers at the end rage of a reach it’s our nervous system registering where the edge is, setting in, going a little further ..I love seeing this gentle reflex. Thread the needle with 2 foam rollers gives you back the space between your ribs so you can for the chocolate this weekend!!

This is what being a Pilates or Yoga Teacher often looks like. Sitting or standing in observation of our students and clients. Giving verbal or hands on cues. Sometimes we demonstrate the movement but most often we are talking you through it so you can feel it - the cues we use are specific. Often the way we cue one person to move will sound totally different for another person doing the same movement. Teaching movement is a skill set that takes years to refine. So when you’re looking for a studio to practice from - don’t skimp on the teachers. Ask them- how long have you been teaching? Where did you study? What union or alliance do you belong to? Who are your mentors? What’s your area of interest when it comes to human movement? Why do teach? All of this should be easy to answer and of it should make your teacher feel defensive. Pilates ain’t pilates ain’t pilates same goes for yoga. ❤️

Without the teacher there is no Pilates. It is a whole body experience, a symbolic relationship between the teacher and the body. It is equal parts you and me. Equal parts observation and expression. Equal parts art and science. You can’t replace the teacher, we can’t ignore your wholeness. 🤍
