Monday 10 August - The Annual Mayors Cup was held today - sort of….
After a nice morning tea the Ladies from Lowood, Kilcoy & Toogoolawah took to the green……in reasonable conditions…….
Unfortunately that was short lived and a blustery South Westerly changed saw play suspended with dust and debris flying every which way……..after a brief break including a sharp shower of rain, the ladies bravely decided to give it another shot……unfortunately it was just too windy, drizzly and cold and it was decided to abandon the rest of the first game.
After some warming up in the clubhouse and a beautiful 2 course roast lunch, the Three Team Captains decided to spare their ladies any more exposure and let the cup go to the winner determined by the ends played in game 1.
While it’s not the way anyone would want to win the cup, a hearty congratulations to the Lowood Plovers for winning the 2026 Mayors Cup! (thanks to Lowood Bowls Club for this accurate report of a most uncomfortable day on the green.)
Thank you Lowood. Had a lovely day chatting to the ladies from the other clubs in the shire. The less said about the weather the better. Lunch was delicious and the company awesome. We can play bowls anytime but seldom get to just sit and chat as we did on Monday. Congratulations Lowood.
