🌊 KINGFISHER SPOTLIGHT 🌊

On the back of our own Kendalls to Surf Beach Swim, Kingfisher Grace backed it up and took on the Shellharbour Ocean Swim on Saturday 18th April and what a result.

Held at Shellharbour North Beach, this great South Coast event catered for all ages and abilities with multiple distances on offer:
🌊 400m Junior Swim (8–12 years)
🌊 1.2km Ocean Swim
🌊 2km Ocean Swim

In a strong field, Grace showed real grit in the water, powering through to an outstanding 🥈 2nd place finish in the 400m swim.

To step up again after our own event and deliver a podium result like that shows determination, confidence and a genuine love for ocean swimming.

Grace, we are so proud of you, well done!

“An incredible opportunity to attend the Junior Lifesaver of the Year camp in Collaroy. There were so many awesome activities packed in! Highlights for me were the ice bath, a sunrise swim with new mates, and getting up close with the Westpac Rescue Helicopter.

I feel really lucky to have been part of this experience. I’m taking away so many positives and some great new friendships.”

Rookie Camp Recap – U13 & U14 Kiama Kingfishers

What an incredible weekend away for our U13 & U14 Kingfishers at Rookie Camp 👏

From the moment they arrived, it was all about getting in the water, building skills and making memories. The Rookies kicked things off with a paddle session with Pete, followed by more time on the boards, some surfing and even ski paddles from the inlet around to the beach and back again 💪

As the day rolled on, the adventures kept coming. They enjoyed pizza for dinner, ATV rides and a (very short!) beach fire before a storm rolled through ⛈️

Up early the next morning, they were straight back into it with another paddle in beautiful conditions, followed by a BBQ breakfast and more waves.

To finish it all off, they headed up the inlet to the sandhills where they absolutely sent it down the dunes on body boards – plenty of laughs and tired legs by the end!

A huge thank you to everyone involved in making the weekend happen and to the team at Sussex Inlet Surf Club for their incredible hospitality. Their facilities are outstanding and we truly appreciate their support 🙌

These opportunities are what it’s all about – building confidence, skills and strong connections within the club.

Thank you to all the parents involved who made this happen and thank you to Sussex Inlet and Districts Surf Life Saving Club for hosting us!

Well done to all our Rookies 👏

🏆 Most Improved Overall
Recipient: Malik Amadeo Chikhani

This award recognises a Nipper who has shown significant technical improvement, increased consistency, dedication to training, a positive attitude and a strong willingness to learn.

This year’s Most Improved Overall recipient is Malik Amadeo Chikhani.

At the beginning of the season Malik was very apprehensive about getting into the surf. Gradually throughout the season he became increasingly engaged, challenging himself by assisting with shore water safety for younger age groups during wade and water activities.

Towards the end of the season something really clicked for Malik. At the final Pointscore he completed a full-length swim around the stringline and placed 6th.

Malik also became comfortable assisting with water safety in the open water with a rescue tube during Jump Rock. It has been incredible to see his progression, from initial apprehension around the water to developing confidence, becoming involved in swim and board training and encouraging younger Nippers to do the same.

Malik finished the season by completing the Kendall’s Swim, something that seemed unimaginable to him at the beginning of the season.

His journey truly embodies the purpose of the Surf Lifesaving Nippers program, to equip, empower, develop and support children to become confident in the water and the lifesavers of the future.

👏 Congratulations Malik!
