🩸 INAUGURAL ROGER GERNY CUP 🩸

🏏 The first ever Roger Gerny Cup was played on Sunday at the Rendall between the Old Haileybury Football and Cricket Clubs. The fixture celebrates Roger Gerny, who is the only man to have played 150 games for both clubs, and is a well-respected member of the Haileybury sporting fraternity.

🏆 The Footballers chose to bat first and got off to a catastrophic start, including three wickets lost in a single over. From there they consolidated and later accelerated through an array of switch-hits, ramps, and dirty slogs. The Cricketers never really got started in their chase after they fell victim to a classic 'fake ball' run-out in the first over.

📣 The Footballers proved to be too crafty and creative, taking home the win in the first edition of the Cup. The game was played in a terrific spirit, including heavy doses of sledging and mental disintegration. We wish them all the best for the upcoming 2026 VAFA season!

The teams are set for the inaugural Roger Gerny Cup! Mate v Mate, Club v Club, putting it all on the line for the first time in history.

To mark the changeover between cricket and footy season, the OHAFC will ditch the footys for whites and pads, as they test themselves against the established, MCC comp winning, OHCC.

Get down to the Rendall from 10:30am onwards this Sunday to see some quality cricket played!

🌧 FIRST XI: RAIN WINS IN DREARY CONTEST 🌧

The 1s made the trip to Essendon and were greeted by gloomy skies and persistent drizzle. The opposition won the toss and chose to bat and the Bloods made the most of a slippery affair, Captain Nay decided to play it safe and pull the pin on fast bowlers given the conditions and bulk spin was served up with Marshy, Prajay and Roey doing their best to grip the soap.

PEGS were limited to 166 and the Bloods found themselves 3/78 in chase, but rain would have the final say with the points being split evenly. On to semi-final weekend!!!

✌ SECOND XI: 2XI SNEAKS INTO FINALS ✌

Needing a bonus point to make our way into the finals, the 2nd XI produced one of the great wins in history to seal our finals berth. Bradley ‘Stoys’ Stow and Rahul ‘Rah’ Bharadwaj ran absolutely rampant on Caulfield’s top order, having them 8/24 in the first 12 overs. Rahul the clear pick of the bowlers, producing a remarkable 7/24 from 6 overs.

Needing 60 runs to win in under 9 overs to send us into the top 4, Brendan ‘Brendan Plumb’ Plumb and Jack ‘Chummers’ Chamberlain looked in no trouble as they cruised past Caulfield's score, none down, all within 5 overs. Winning 6 of our last 7, it has been an incredible run into finals. Consider us the darkest horse of all ✌️✌️

📜 THIRD XI: HISTORY MADE ON THE HAZLITT 📜

The 3s finished what was a historic season this weekend. For a second time this season we had chaos at the toss with only five players at the ground. Thankfully, we won it and decided to bat first.

Xavier (17) made another solid start before Connor (28) lit things up in the middle overs with some trademark clean hitting as we scraped together a mighty 85.

With the ball, NJ (2/24) snagged two in a row and threatened to break the game open early. Then, in scenes no one saw coming, Max (2/6) and Seb (1/3) both grabbed their first wickets of the season – Max even pulling off his own two-in-two special. Unfortunately, the wicket frenzy came about 80 runs too late with MCC chasing down our total with 5 wickets in hand.

And that wraps a season of pure consistency: 10 losses, 5 draws, and a perfect zero wins. Bring on next season! 🫠

🚃 FIRST XI: 1'S WAGON KEEPS ROLLIN' 🚃
The Bloods won yet another toss (miracles do happen) and chose to bat again. Skipper Lakshman shuffled the deck and promoted L Stow to 3 and C Cater to 5 and both vindicated the decision scoring 44 and 57 respectively. Prajay continued his onslaught from last week belting 73 from just 46 balls, whilst Blade scored a quickfire 26* to hand the Bloods a commanding total of 265.

Kurt was the pick of the bowlers, spinning a fancy web to take 3/22 from his 8, whilst Rikhil chipped in with 2 wickets of his own. Blade hung on to 4 catches in the field and PEGS would be dismissed for 142.

👀 SECOND XI: 2XI EDGE CLOSER TO FINALS BERTH 👀
In another do or die matchup, the Magoos were sent in to bat first by Melbourne High, who forgot the game ball ✌️ and delayed the beginning of the match. Brendan ‘Brendan Plumb’ Plumb notched 50, his first milestone of many for the club. Melbourne High brought on spin and challenged our middle order but Ranel ‘Nelly’ ‘The Effect’ Seneviratne built a timely 51, which included a ramp on to the top of the practice nets. Nelly is comfortably the best ramper at the club.

Defending 182, Charlie ‘Bandit’ Wigney and Bradley ‘Stoys’ Stow had Melbourne High in trouble at 2/12, but their old head dug in and all of a sudden the game was in the balance. Enter Ethan ‘Inspectors’ Clark, who dismissed their big dog and claimed 3/23 off 8 overs. Nelly backed his batting up with 4/22 and wrapped the game up, sending the Magoos ever so closer to a finals berth.

🕒 THIRD XI: SIGNS OF THE PAST? 🕒
Winning the toss, the 3s went into bat. Cowelly (21) got us off to a quick start before being dismissed by catch of the century. AJ (23) and Shamil were building nicely in the middle overs rotating strike. Millzy played well-constructed 76 which was pivotal in bringing our total to 151.

Brad (2/14) got us off to a flyer in his first over taking 2 in 2 both taken safely by Cowelly. Matt (2/23) also bowled one of the better spells of the 3s' season challenging the batsmen with every ball. A few missed chances, however, saw Old Scotch chase our total down in 32 overs. Last game at home next week - Up the Bloods!!!

👏🏾 SHAMIL MAKES SOME NOISE 👏🏾

Congratulations to Shamil Seneviratne on raising his first 50 for the Bloods against Old Scotch in Division 3 on Sunday!

Millsy showed off his all-round talent and posted a defiant 50 despite wickets tumbling around him, he would go on to make 76 (121) before being dismissed.

Wait for his teammates reactions...worth it!
