🌧 FIRST XI: RAIN WINS IN DREARY CONTEST 🌧
The 1s made the trip to Essendon and were greeted by gloomy skies and persistent drizzle. The opposition won the toss and chose to bat and the Bloods made the most of a slippery affair, Captain Nay decided to play it safe and pull the pin on fast bowlers given the conditions and bulk spin was served up with Marshy, Prajay and Roey doing their best to grip the soap.
PEGS were limited to 166 and the Bloods found themselves 3/78 in chase, but rain would have the final say with the points being split evenly. On to semi-final weekend!!!
✌ SECOND XI: 2XI SNEAKS INTO FINALS ✌
Needing a bonus point to make our way into the finals, the 2nd XI produced one of the great wins in history to seal our finals berth. Bradley ‘Stoys’ Stow and Rahul ‘Rah’ Bharadwaj ran absolutely rampant on Caulfield’s top order, having them 8/24 in the first 12 overs. Rahul the clear pick of the bowlers, producing a remarkable 7/24 from 6 overs.
Needing 60 runs to win in under 9 overs to send us into the top 4, Brendan ‘Brendan Plumb’ Plumb and Jack ‘Chummers’ Chamberlain looked in no trouble as they cruised past Caulfield's score, none down, all within 5 overs. Winning 6 of our last 7, it has been an incredible run into finals. Consider us the darkest horse of all ✌️✌️
📜 THIRD XI: HISTORY MADE ON THE HAZLITT 📜
The 3s finished what was a historic season this weekend. For a second time this season we had chaos at the toss with only five players at the ground. Thankfully, we won it and decided to bat first.
Xavier (17) made another solid start before Connor (28) lit things up in the middle overs with some trademark clean hitting as we scraped together a mighty 85.
With the ball, NJ (2/24) snagged two in a row and threatened to break the game open early. Then, in scenes no one saw coming, Max (2/6) and Seb (1/3) both grabbed their first wickets of the season – Max even pulling off his own two-in-two special. Unfortunately, the wicket frenzy came about 80 runs too late with MCC chasing down our total with 5 wickets in hand.
And that wraps a season of pure consistency: 10 losses, 5 draws, and a perfect zero wins. Bring on next season! 🫠
