12.7 km today and an average pace of 5:37 so pretty happy with that given the long break. Beautiful day for it, sunny and perfect temperature. Afterwards I took the dogs for a quick look at a local footy match and found bacon and egg rolls for sale. Good recovery food!

Got through a (very slow!) ten km run on the weekend. Once I get up to 15 then I'll start serious training for the marathon. Current marathon goals: #1 - finish!; #2 - under 4 hrs would be respectable; #3 - 3 hrs 30 minutes would be fantastic. That would be maintaining my best half marathon time for twice the distance which could be optimistic but not impossible.

Well it's been a very dull few weeks at INDY Fitness while I dealt with a chest infection. I started to get back into running a couple of weeks ago after more than a month off - happily I'm finding my fitness is coming back pretty quickly. I was able to keep up things like squats and lunges so maintained some leg strength, now I just have to work on getting endurance back. The marathon is only 4 months away!

Yay! The lovely people at Melbourne City Council have agreed for INDY Fitness to hold Heartmoves classes twice a week at the Bill Vanina Pavilion in Kensington. Official launch will be on 16 April at 11 am and then classes 11 am Wed and Fri starting from 23 April. There's been an enthusiastic response from locals I've spoken to so I think there will be a good turn out.

I just registered for the Melbourne marathon in October. So far 28 km is the longest I've run so quite a bit to add to that. But there's plenty of time to get ready so I can slowly build on the distance and stay (fingers crossed) injury free.

The running group I train is getting too fit, I struggled to keep up with them today! But it's great to be pushed harder, I'd not be able to sustain that intensity on my own.

The finish line of the Two Bays run - # 146. I don't know why I'm still running!

If you're thinking that some personal training might be the way to meet your fitness goals here's a good deal: 4 weeks, 3 sessions a week, for $540. That's $45 a session. A month of consistent training will establish a great foundation with better fitness and greater confidence in your ability to stick at it.

Happy 2014! A bit late I know - I've been busy eating leftovers, drinking wine and reading. It's a great time to start thinking about what challenges you want to set yourself for the new year. For me the physical goals are a marathon (first time, I figure I should do it before I get toooooo long in the tooth) and learning how to swim properly, i.e. not having to stop and gasp for two minutes at the end of every lap.

Still struggling to find the perfect gift for someone? How about some sessions with a personal trainer? $60 for each individual session, or $500 for ten, valid for 6 months (three months longer than the usual terms as we know it sometimes takes a while for new year resolutions to become reality). Perfect for those in Melbourne's inner north/west (Kensington, North Melbourne, Mooney Ponds, Ascot Vale, Brunswick, Footscray and Yarraville).
