When I was on crutches post surgery, my hip flexors were so angry with me! Constantly engaged while i awkwardly elevated my leg using crutches. Eventually I taught myself to relax, so my quad didn't have to do all the work and could passively hang, but in the meantime while I was stuck in bed, this nice restorative posture was very helpful 🙏

You don't need a bolster, you can use a pillow or a rolled up towel. And just by having my hips slightly higher than my feet and my shoulders, I was able to get a front body stretch and lengthens out all the tight bits 🙌

This can be a great one if you're tight from sitting or driving. You can also prop yourself up on something more firm too, like yoga blocks for a bit more elevation and stretch. ❤️

Taking a moment to reflect on the year that was, the year now past, 2023.

Be gentle with yourself, feel whatever you have to feel. Take a big breath, practice non attachment and let it all go.

And maybe, just maybe we can all celebrate even the little wins, like making it through ❤️🙏
..and I'll take a few more days to soak up this view, and the rare quiet moments 🙈🙉🙊

I hope this time of year is kind to you, in the busyness of Christmas or end of year celebrations.

I hope that you can find some stillness or time out for you in whatever it is that you're doing.

Tadasana, Mountain Pose. A strong yet simple shape. I like breaking it down and really sitting with it, feeling into the body when I teach it. 🙏

And while I go through my rehab I'm reminding myself of all the cues I use in my classes. Belly in, standing strong, feeling into my feet, grounding. 💪

My poor swollen ankle and foot will take some time to be comfortable back on the ground as I wean out of the boot, but I'm reminding myself to lean into what I know, what I love, and just feel. Just be.

It's been a tough few weeks, months. But today is particularly hard. One thing I've tried to continue doing is practice acceptance. Believing in the strength and healing abilities of my own body. 🙏

And helping myself along with this little meditation and mantra.

Pressing thumb to finger and repeating a phrase. You could try anything.. I often use the words: 'Kindness begins with me' in classes, including my children's yoga classes. But today for me:

It will be fine.
It will heal well.

Gently pressing thumb to index finger [it],
Thumb to middle finger [will],
Thumb to ring finger [be],
Thumb to pinky finger [fine].

Moving slowly, mindfully, intentionally.

And using all the strength I have to practice ahimsa (nonviolence / kindness), in this instance towards myself. ❤️💪

Not a whole lot of asana practice going on here, but I can get my legs up the wall..

Legs up the wall is one of my favourite restorative postures and a bonus because my poor broken ankle needs elevation and rest. The boot can get heavy though 😅

Taking the time, to move, or rest however I can...
..and counting down the weeks and days until I can fully return to the mat ❤️
