Australian Taido

Australian Taido Welcome to the official page for Australian Taido! For information about practicing taido in Australia, contact us at [email protected]

Taido (躰道) is a martial art originating from Japan that utilises dynamic movement and evasive counter techniques across 3 dimensions to defeat an opponent. The style has been practiced in Australia since 1997 with 2 clubs currently operating in Sydney. We encourage newcomers to try out taido and welcome visiting taidokas from overseas to practice with us!

In Taido, kicks can come from anywhere, because we generate techniques from body movement rather than adhering to rigid forms. From any given position and trajectory, either leg can kick from one or more directions, or we could choose to punch, depending on distance and other factors. This dynamic flow aspect to Taido techniques is one of the key characteristics of our art.

Stay fluid. Stay aware. Keep adapting.

Something special happens when you spend weeks, months, years training together. Pushing your limits. Failing. Recovering. Learning. And trusting that your dojo members have your back.
