CHCC Super Seniors 2026
In the final game of the regular season, Castle Hill defeated Bayview 6½–1½ at Ryde Parramatta in a strong team performance. The result saw Castle Hill qualify for a playoff for the eighth and final position, progressing by a mere ½ point.
The qualifying match was played against St Michaels at Strathfield on Monday, 31 August.
What a closely fought contest it turned out to be.
Gerry Power, playing at number one, won his match 3 and 1, while Ian Cochrane, at number two, fought hard all day before securing a 1-up victory on the 18th hole.
At number three, Charlie Yun came up against a very strong opponent and went down 6 and 4. Craig Watson, playing at number four, played well throughout the day, only to see an errant drive on the final hole dribble out of bounds, resulting in a 2-down loss.
Tony Pagliaro, at number five, also faced strong opposition and went down 5 and 4. At number six, the ever-steady Bob White capped off a very successful season with a 3 and 2 victory.
At number seven, Des Hanney suffered his first defeat of the season, going down 3 and 2. In the final game of his first year in Super Seniors, Mark Eades secured an excellent 2-up victory.
With the match finishing at four games each, the result was decided on the number of holes won, with Castle Hill unfortunately losing on countback.
While it wasn't the result we were hoping for, looking back on the season, it was a tremendous team effort to make the playoffs. We had several of our top players unavailable for many of our matches, making the achievement even more impressive.
Team spirit and camaraderie were certainly prevalent throughout the year, and all the players are already looking forward to another strong season in 2027.
