My simple answer: Yes.
But should everyone be maxing out and lifting as heavy as possible? Absolutely not.
Deadlifts whether it’s a trap bar, barbell, or off blocks should be in just about everyone’s program. The movement pattern of hinging down and lifting something off the floor shows up in everyday life. Think: Picking up shopping bags, lifting your kid, or grabbing a water bucket while washing the car.
Unless you’re a powerlifter or someone who needs to know their max, there’s no real reason to go near it. Light to moderate weights done with good technique are going to benefit 99% of people more than an ugly max rep ever will.
And age? Not an excuse. Whether you’re just starting out in your teens or still training in your 80s or 90s learning how to lift properly benefits everyday life.
