6 gliders today..Bruce Taylor and Jacques took off first and scratched away from Keepit in very different directions, but were both rewarded with climbs to 8000ft eventually. Meanwhile the rest flew locally, and didn't get much more than 5000 feet and there were a few relights .
Spring has sprung!

Video of Warren's 2nd landing in LS7. Congrats to Julien too who managed two cross tailwind take offs in the Hornet without dropping a wing! NB it's super easy to drop the wing with a Hornet, I suspect that's why they came with wingtip wheels.

The NT Soaring winch has made it as far as Coober Pedy on its long journey to Lake Keepit from Alice Springs towing a glider. Robert says it's travelling well!

High cloud but a nice soaring day. 6 gliders flew. I did a further evaluation flight in the concrete swan (Twin Astir IKX) and couldn't resist thermalling with my trainees in Hornet and LS7. Craig joined in the fun in DG 400, he can just be seen in the video below the mighty swan! Jacques flew his newly sealed JS1 and disappeared up the ranges. Dave Turner was the sniffer, and sniffed out some good thermals before anyone else launched. Jenny

Three gliders flew on Wednesday, Bruce Taylor in JS3, Warren Mullen on Hornet and Dave Turner in ASW27.

Warren was trying to do 5 hours - challenging for the conditions, but managed a creditable 2 1/2 hours.
Conditions were blue, thermals to about 5000ft.

The chook poo on the runway seems to be a great kangaroo repellent...but people find it a bit on the nose too!

Today we had five gliders in the air, with thermals to 6500ft. Beautiful spring day. Pictures are after landing. Warren and I finished the Hornet in the morning, got the flarm talking to the Vario and programmed the settings. Then check flight for Warren and covered a couple more bits of the syllabus. Then Dave Turner flew his ASW27, Craig flew his DG 400, Al Giles flew his ASH26, and Warren flew the Hornet. It was such a nice day that I joined them in the ASK21 just for fun! Meanwhile trucks were driving up and down the strip spreading the huge mountain of chook poo over the runway. They were very good keeping a lookout for the gliders, but the pong is not great!

On Monday 1 September, the tug flew away for maintenance for the day, so Warren Mullen and I decided to install a new S100 Vario in Hornet GMX. Warren is very good at soldering. We removed a large amount of excess wiring, and re-did the plumbing to eliminate as many joins as possible before putting the new instrument in. Also glued in a new undercarriage warning switch. Couldn't get it finished before dark...
