UNCERTAIN FUTURE FOR KGC
Despite the shock of their club’s sudden closure on July 1, loyal members of Katoomba Golf Club banded together last Friday to send a determined message to the golfing community — “don’t desert us yet”.

The Blue Mountains Gazette broke the news last week that the club — which boasts 2013 Australasian PGA Tour player Troy Cox as a member — was placed into voluntary administration, its doors ‘temporarily’ closed and its staff told they no longer had jobs.
The announcement was delivered at a members’ meeting by The Reed Group representative Garth Graydon.
But members have not lost hope and are hanging onto a brief update posted on the club’s page by former staff which indicates the club’s doors could re-open as early as the end of July.
A post by ‘Katoomba Golf Club’ confirmed “there were a number of factors that contributed to this sad event (but) rather than us at the Club speculating . . . we can say that we are already working with the Appointed to have this temporary closure ended”.
“It will be a tiring process (for those involved) in which we hope to see some positive movement over the next two to three weeks.”
Member Gavin Moor told the Gazette on Friday Katoomba Golf Club is a great community resource that “we can’t afford to lose”.
“As members, we can only hang in there and see what happens.
“We don’t want to go anywhere else — I think 99 per cent of the members feel that way.
“We are concerned about how things are going and how things are managed.
“I feel more sorry for the staff than for us members, as they lost their jobs and they were great, friendly staff, many of whom worked at the club for years.
“We need more people to play golf on the course, we need more members and more people to come and enjoy the facilities.
“I believe there might be a creditors’ meeting next week and we’d love that (the club opening again by the end of July) to happen — we remain hopeful.”
Fellow member Rosalie Rolfe said the members are “really loyal” to the club.
“We feel lost and helpless and nobody knows the real facts about the (club’s) finances and what will happen,” she said.

“But we aren’t deserting the club like rats on a sinking ship.
“If it opens again we will be back again.”
The Gazette attempted to contact The Reed Group several times last week but our messages were not returned.
