The Coach: Kev Atkins
Kev has been playing football since he can remember. Born and raised in the UK's football hot bed, the North West of England, 18 miles north of Manchester. It was jumpers for goalposts, streetlights for flood lights, and the shout of 'car' certainly rang out as he and his friends played football in the streets way beyond the sun going down. Kev represented his local area from the age of 10 and continued to play representative football throughout his teenage years, before eventually playing semi-professional in the North of England. Having taken an early interest in coaching, Kev started learning his profession as a football coach in his mid 20's. When Kev moved to Australia, he immediately reached out to the football community, completing his FFA Senior Advance / C licence. This was followed by taking up a coaching role with Central Coast Football Association, coaching regional representative teams at various age groups in the NSW State League for several years. Kev also coached teams representing the Central Coast region in the annual NSW State Titles, which is seen as one of Australia's premier pathway tournaments in youth football. Kev has a passion for football and loves nothing more than coaching, helping players build confidence, and resilience with a keen focus on development rather than just winning. His training sessions are adapted to the age groups and individual player needs. Each session has a goal, and that is for each player to have fun, master a new skill or improve on a current skill. The process of setting and achieving goals builds confidence and character in young players. Kev believes coaches play a key role in guiding players through this helping them understand the importance persistence and determination, and that good practice makes permanent.
