🥋 Master Amanda Morrison | Founder & International Instructor, AITA
From a passionate 12-year-old beginner to a newly pinned 7th Dan Master, my martial arts journey has been defined by dedication, community, and the pursuit of excellence.
My training began in 1992 in Umina, setting off a lifelong path in Taekwon-Do. Under the guidance of Master Steven Cheah, I earned my 1st Dan in 1995, 2nd Dan in 1997, and 3rd Dan in 2000. Seeking a global standard for my students, I aligned my school with the International Taekwon-Do Federation (ITF) in 2002, proudly founding the Australian Independent Taekwon-Do Academy (AITA).
Over the decades, I have been privileged to learn from and grade under some of the ultimate pioneers of Taekwon-Do:
2004: Graded for 4th Dan International Instructor.
2012: Achieved 5th Dan under ITF Pioneer Grand Master Rhee Ki Ha.
2016: Promoted to 6th Dan in Connecticut, USA, under pioneer Grand Master Hwang Kwang Sung (Unified ITF).
2026: Achieved the prestigious rank of Masters 7th Dan Black Belt under Grand Master Michael Daher in Sydney.
Beyond the Do-Jang, I have proudly represented Australia on the world stage, competing against the absolute best across the globe:
🏆 World Championship Honours:
🥈 2013 (Greece): Silver in Power Breaking
🥈🥉 2015 (Australia): Silver in 4th-6th Dan Patterns, Bronze in Team Events
🥇🥇 2015 (London): Gold in Female Power Breaking, 4x Gold in Team Events
🥇🥈 2017 (Argentina): Gold in Female Power Breaking, Silver in Team Events
🥈🥈 2019 (Melbourne): Silver in 4th-6th Dan Patterns, Silver in Team Events
Today, my greatest passion is giving back. Through AITA and specialized training programs, I am dedicated to empowering the next generation of martial artists, fostering confidence, and sharing the true tenets of ITF Taekwon-Do with our community.

In Taekwon-Do, blocking is one of the most important foundations of training. A strong block doesn’t just stop an opponent’s technique—it protects the body, controls distance, and creates the opportunity to respond effectively.

Practising blocks improves timing, coordination, and awareness while reinforcing an important martial arts principle: defence comes before attack.

Strong blocking builds confident, disciplined martial artists. 🥋

19/02/2026

Working on timing and coordination in Taekwon-Do isn’t just about moving fast — it’s about moving right.

In Taekwon-Do, power comes from precision.
Hands and feet must work together.
Breath must match movement.
Mind must stay one step ahead.

Timing teaches patience.
Coordination builds control.
Both create confident, capable martial artists.

Slow it down.
Break it apart.
Then bring it together with purpose.

That’s how we improve. 👊

🥋 NEW CLASS TIMES: Kariong & Ettalong 🥋
Big news, AITA family! To give our students more focused training and better development, we are updating our class schedules at both Kariong and Ettalong.

Check out the new sessions below:

📍 Kariong (Wednesdays)
Kick-Start: 5:00pm – 5:45pm

Intermediate: 5:45pm – 7:00pm

📍 Ettalong (Tuesdays)
Kick-Start: 5:00pm – 5:45pm

Intermediate: 5:45pm – 7:00pm

Leadership: 7:00pm – 7:30pm

🕒 We’re Keeping it Flexible!
We know life gets busy, so we’re making this transition easy for you:

Colored Belts: If the new times don't quite fit, you can still attend during the old class times.

Families: If these changes split your kids into different sessions, just pick the one class time that works best for your schedule so you can all train at once!

Got questions? Drop a comment below or chat with us at your next session. See you on the mats! 👊

A fitness class is a group of strangers in a room. A Dojang is a hierarchy of mutual respect. Higher belts mentor lower belts, and there is a shared accountability that keeps you coming back long after the "New Year's resolution" energy has faded.

It’s not just a physical workout—it’s a brain workout. 🧠

Ever tried to do a complex "In-In-Out-Out" pattern on an agility ladder at full speed? It takes intense focus and coordination. At the AITA, we use ladder drills to help our younger students improve their spatial awareness and concentration. It’s the perfect way to burn off energy while teaching the discipline required for complex Taekwon-Do patterns (Tul).

Does your child need a fun way to build focus? Comment "LADDER" to learn about our youth programs!
