24 Hour Trial 2025
AgServe MDS Team Racing race report.
As a team the only Wally sitting out this round was management! aka Mumager😆 This year's challenge was to get around the course, to be present & support all 4 of my riders/passengers with an encouraging word, a little smile & look that speaks words without words, an empowering hug that charges their battery.
Bike #5 - This year James has saddled up with rider Shaun Buckley in class C expert sidecar. The duo has certainly made an impressive start to the race season with every expectation to be up there for this year's 24hr.
Bike #22 - Father daughter duo, Gary & Charlize in class J masters 45+ sidecar. With one 6hr under their belt together, as SART fits in where possible in Charlize's race schedule. Their only goal, to enjoy their first 24hr together, Charlize's first & try and finish.
Bike #113 - Ryan in class CO clubman open, started his 24 experience in last years 100yr anniversary of Australia's ultimate reliability test. Putting in the hrs on & off the track this year with his bike, ready, locked & loaded to tackle this year's 24!
The weeks leading up were full of prep & organisation, hrs on bikes, late nights in the shed, while juggling emotions & loss. As a family the continual support from friends & family checking in, offers of help, chats on the phone all helped. On race day, ultimately, the strength of our Wally family, together & supporting us racing, with you camped out along the track & following our riders, your presence meant the World to us. Ma Janet, Sue, Teagan, Mat, Donna & little Wally's Max, Judd & Penny.
Race morning, a mix of nerves, excitement, fighting the onset of illness to two riders, a rush that is racing, we hit the road to Main for the start line!
First to roll out from our team, Shaun & James left at 11:05, to an impressive crowd gathered around & lining the start line & exit. High fives all along the track until exiting the oval on their way to checkpoint 1 to start their first competitive section. Thank you to Sophie Baker, family & extended family, for your love & support of our James. Also to Sinead, Buckley family & crew for your extended love & support to James & supporting them all the way around.
Gary & Charlize leaving at 11:22, Charlize reaching out for the supportive high fives from Granny, Mum, friends Karen ,Holly & Kerrie to the start of lap 1.
With a quick departure of our support crew, following James, Gary & Charlize, spreading ourselves at different check points, Mum's race was also on! A big thankyou to Karen & Holly Ryan for jumping in with me, keeping me on schedule with times, navigating maps, to a timed trip back to main to see off Ryan.
Leaving at 12:53, Ryan rolled over the start line with anticipation of the next 24hrs in front of him. With the love & support of Hollie Preston, family & friends, thank you for helping our Ryan. The first competive section was nice & flowing. With minimal rain this winter, the ground was still wet from a couple days rain, but soon broke through to dust. Ryan checking his air filter at the first fuel stop, all looked good. At the completion of section 7 lap 1, Ryan was sitting an impressive 1st in class, 11th outright. Hitting section 8 with determination & full send, then burp, burp, burp, stop. No amount of willing could restart Ryan's bike, blown motor, dusted! Ending his race with a bike retrieval back to main. Hard luck mate, you were pushing hard, really thought your bike troubles were past you. Devistated for you for what could of been & more so that you were out before I could get around to see you myself🥺.
Gary & Charlize enjoying their time on the bike together, were pushing themselves. Charlize hanging on, pushing through a sore throat & generally feeling unwell, back pain & at one stage throwing up! At the completion of lap 2, section 7 they were sitting 5th in class, by the end of section 8 & the onset of extreme back pain for Charlize dropping to 7th, called it at checkpoint 17.
Shaun & James going hard, doing well & finding their groove, at one stage sitting 2nd in class & outright, weren't exempt from troubles. James battling a sinus infection, hitting a rock hard in a section bending up their rim, were up against it. Deciding to nurse the rim, dropped to 7th in class before deciding to go all out & leave it to the race Gods! Getting themselves back into 3rd, a silly mistake cost them penalty points & by races end, 24hrs later, had them provisional 4th & wondering what if.
But this is racing & anything could of happen & did so to all riders! Some finishing & some not, leaving with broken bikes or broken down bodies. Anything can happen in 24hrs! Congratulations to all that finished, leaving with their own stories of trials & tribulations.
Thank you to all the land owners, volunteers within the motorbike clubs, community groups, the 24hr committee. The countless hours you all put in to make this event possible & run for another successful year, a whole hearted congratulations to you all & thank you.
Thank you to the Kathy Twartz & family for allowing us to camp out & share your beautiful spot. Xx
To my mum who was going to be here, but was not to be ###. Dad/Pop Deano for following around & supporting at different spectator sections with us until night fall ###.
