Australia Strongest Middle Weight Finals 🎉

11th strongest under 73 kg

Event 3 Overhead Medley

60kg axle

65kg log

70kg axle

75kg log

I like an axle over head. Training for this went great and I was even able to hit 70 in training, unfortunately at comp standing in it's way was the 65 kg log.

My back and log are not friends.

In the final weeks before comp I was at peace with the not getting a rep in this but I always will give it a feel, so I did and gave it a good racking 🤣

Event 4 160kg Frame Carry

The idea of this event is to carry the frame as far as you can in a minute. If you drop it anywhere but outside the lines then you are done.

I'm not great at farmers, grip isn't my thing however in training I was able to get 45 m.

This was a hard pick but my hands held and I felt ok I wasn't slipping and the skin in my hand wasn't tearing.

On my 3rd lap I dropped the frame a few cm shy of where I needed to drop 🤦 the ref gave me the down and then quickly said no, I did ask to clarify if I was good or not as I got the down, he said no as the frame needed to cross the line not be on the line. It is what is 😭

Normally on events like this I make sure I go way past the line, but as my grip isn't that great I tried to not do more then what was nesasary.

I was disappointed, but reflecting on it it's still the furthest I've gotten without drops in a comp setting.

Event 5

Atlas Stones to 1.2m Platform

90kg, 100kg, 110kg, 120kg

In training I've had access to a 105kg stone, which I haven't been able to load. I've tried so many times. The hope was to get the 100 but it didn't happen, but like the log still gave it a feel.

I'm not disappointed because all I can do is try and every attempt I get that little bit closer so the day I do finally get the 100 is going to be glorious 😜

Massive thank you to all the other competitors, the volunteers, sponsors, the venue, all the things that make strongman, strongman 😂

And to all the family and friends that support me in this extreme hobby of mine.

If you watched all these and thought I would like to give strongman a go, check out Strongmania ❤️

Australia Strongest Middle Weight Finals

11th strongest under 73 kg

My goals this year were to firstly not zero, secondly run my race (kinda my goal every year but this year I feel like I nailed it)

5 events in total but this post is just about event 1 and 2.

Event 1

Loading Medley

60kg Keg 60kg Husafell Sandbag 80kg Sandbag

We were told in the briefing that there would be no distance score.  If we didn't load the object onto the platform then we would only receive a score based on the implements loaded.

I was very nervous about this. During training, it really depended on the day if I could extend the 80kg Sandbag without dropping and repicking it.

I knew if I got the bottom of the bag on the platform I could shove the top and get it on, that was my plan and I was over the moon when I got it.

Massive thank you to Carl and Camilla coaching me through how to lift and load the keg in the few minutes before the event.

Event 2

Deadlift ladder 150kg, 160kg, 170kg, 190kg

If there was an event I cared about most, it was this one. The last 2 years I have failed the 160kg deadlift at the big shows.

But not this year.

As it came to my turn I definitely felt my anxiety rise as we had to get my straps done and my shirt back over the top of the suit. Super grateful that in that moment there was my Coach Carl ready to help me get it all on.

For me this was redemption and seeing the live stream footage was really cool to have gotten some single footage air time, my son's were super excited to watch that at home.

Also wanted to give a shout out here to 2 of the sponsors.

Intent, I love these leggings. I knew I could trust them to stay up and be "bend over proof", I wore them for my whole prep and performance under my Deadlift suit. I never had any fears that my leggings wouldn't perform the job well.

And, of course, Cerberus Strength for quality chalk, belts, lifting straps, my Deadlift suit, and all the gear I needed for the day.

This is the date I lost my mother to cancer.
Through the month of July, I’m particularly sensitive and notice many posts honouring loved ones.

Grief is not a linear process; it’s not over within a set time frame.

I have listened to this TED talk a few times and I have abbreviated it the best I can below as maybe it will help someone else also, but if you want to watch if for yourself on YouTube it’s called; Grief - What Everyone Should Know, by Tanya Villanueva Tepper. I found it particularly comforting.

Imagine you’re on a beach; the sun is warming your face and you’re enjoying a nice drink. Suddenly the sky goes dark, a tidal wave comes down and crushes you then you are being yanked through an unforgiving ocean and its dark.

You can’t breathe because of the weight and all you can do is try and keep your head above water. You can’t eat or sleep when your being thrown around like that, you can’t function well, and everything becomes difficult to do.

Thankfully we can put on a life jacket of hope and take courage from those who have come before us, getting support from family, friends, or a grief councillor.

However it is we choose to stay afloat, it is then up to us to navigate the rough seas to discover new joys and regain our confidence and discover new reasons for purpose.
To bravely dive into that ocean again and again, becoming more resilient along the way. And with time, we can find our way back to calmer waters and a better, more empathetic version of ourselves.

Grief, much like the ocean, never ends. It flows, shifts, changes and we never know when we are going to get hit with another wave. And with each wave it’s important that we feel it to heal it, that each emotion is turned over and validated, understood and met with love and compassion.

If we give ourselves and others the space to grieve in whatever way that is needed without judgement, we are not only honouring the eternal love that binds us with those who have died, we are also helping in the process of bringing meaning to their lives and our continued existence without them
