I have a strong determination and motivation to fix my deadlift! I am in powerlifting for the long run so technique means everything to me then the strength will follow. It's slowly getting better! This is 112.5kgs

It's all about the journey! Start to love what you do and nothing is ever a task.

Are you ready to give it your all? To never give up? To push harder than ever before? How great is your determination? If your heart isn't in something you won't give it your all and you will continue to fail and wonder why. Until you can truly commit, it will always be a half hearted effort, no matter how hard you are trying. Start making your goals reality. Stop sitting down and thinking about it. Get up and do something about because no one else will do it for you and it won't come knocking on your door. You have to want it for yourself! Do it for yourself, not for someone else!

I believe the most important thing in training is giving it your all and focusing on every repetition as if it were you first. The tighter you can be, the more determined you can be and the harder you can work, everything else will slot into place. Everyone is training with amazing commitment in the lead up to nationals. Gemella is smashing out all three lifts and showing just how to come back after some well needed time off with brilliant determination. Kristie, Margie and Carolyn are showing those squats who is boss by doing 12reps at heavy weights. Bec is extremely focused and her technique is paying off. Amy's bench has improved by 10 fold and Steph is making squats look way too easy. I cant wait to see the full potential from all these wonderful girls. Keep up the hard work and stay focused :-)

FOOD, glorious food! How important is food to u? Do u prioritize when u eat? Make sure you are eating enough calories to support your bodies training needs and recovery. Don't avoid carbohydrates. They are important as they fuel your muscles during exercise and allow you to sustain a better quality workout for a longer period of time. Start realizing that what you eat will help you train and help u reach your goals in both strength gains and weight loss. Food doesn't have to be boring to be delicious. We eat with our eyes so spice up your cooking and focus your mind why you are eating what you are eating. Eat healthy, eat often, eat well!

Consume all the knowledge you can and listen to all the advice you are given. Everyone wants to help to achieve your best! I have had heaps of people come up to me lately and ask for nutritional advice. I'm am not a nutritionist so I can only give you guidelines on what you should be doing and what I do for myself. The best tips I can give is don't skip meals and don't stop having carbs! So many people will have a treat and then skip their next meal hoping this will balance out. Saying no to a treat will build your willpower and make it easier every time you are face will cravings! One step at a time can change everything

Good luck to everyone competing today! I think this photo says it all.

The two most common deadlift techniques are sumo and conventional. Both will improve strength, speed, rate of force development, flexibility, core stability, soft tissue and bone strength. A few positives for sumo deads are:
1. Less range of motion
2. Greater carryover to wide stance squats
3. Less mobility required in terms of ankle and thoracic mobility
4. Less shear force on lumbar spine
And something to think about is that it is harder on your hips. It is common that people will complain of severe anterior hip pain which could possibly be a symptom of femoral anterior glide syndrome and can sometimes be helped by focusing on glute activation exercises.
To decide between sumo and conventional you need to practice both and go from there. There are benefits for doing both and you just have to decide what you want to get out of it. More to come on deadlifts....
