This was special…
Pat, the lovely lady in yellow, came to visit Izzy & I today. She used to live in Kangarilla & in her heyday was quite the rider, even sharing stories of riding an Arab stallion! Being around horses again was on Pat’s bucket list of things to do, so of course we had to make it happen! With her walker in tow (which Izzy couldn’t have cared less about - gosh I love this horse 😍), Pat spent time feeding carrots and soaking in the familiar smell of a horse, and Izzy’s ever so calming presence. I’ve been told she went home pretty chuffed. What a cup filler for all involved.

Due to the unpredictable weather, today’s ‘On the Farm’ Homeschool Program was held at Brin Farm, which is not only a stunning venue available for hire, but a horse stud, specialising in the breeding of Spanish Andalusians & Warmbloods & Warlanders. Talk about adding a touch of class to our learning experience!
Students learnt about Andalusians through hands on experiences, explicit teaching & visual aids & then chose their own horse breed to research & write about. I can tell you now, we had 6 very engaged learners! 🙌🐴

This awesome bunch of kids have just finished our 5 week “On the Farm” Home-school Program. They, along with students from our other group, have all asked to stay on until the end of term too 🙌. Kaz and I are absolutely loving these sessions and we have plenty of new ideas up our sleeve. The learning opportunities around here are endless really!

Next Monday and Tuesday will be the final week of our first ever ‘On the Farm’ Homeschooling Program.

These sessions are held on Mondays and Tuesdays from 10am-12pm and run for 5 weeks at a time.

The feedback has been wonderful and there is no doubt the kids have benefited from a balance of hands on activities, explicit explanation and indoor learning tasks.

Our next round begins the week starting June 1st and we are now welcoming new bookings.

We have had students in the current running program requesting to participate in the next five weeks, which means spots are limited….so get in quick!

Send a message to reserve your child’s spot, or if you have any questions.

If I had a dollar for every time this client said “when do you think I might be able to ride Jarnica?” or “my dream is to ride Jarnica” or “Jarnica is my favourite because her father is a champion”…..I’d officially be loaded! This kid has seriously been eyeing off this horse for almost a year 😂
Well, today was her day!
We had a last minute cancellation in her standard ‘double pony riding’ session so we decided to surprise her by saddling up the queen herself. Erin gave her a 1:1 lesson and even had her trotting around on the lead (and even a little off too)!
I’d say her day was made. Or even her year!

Monday & Tuesday of this week, we held our first ever ‘On The Farm’ Homeschooling sessions and I’m really happy with how they went. Loads of hands-on learning over the two hours & students went home feeling happy & regulated. I really enjoyed the moments the kids led the learning journey. For example, after finding pinecones on our forest walk, the 5 in my younger group were really interested to learn more about them next week ✅.
I have attached our 5 week program but send a message if you’d like to know more!

What an epic 3 days!
When one of the loveliest, most generous humans (who also happens to own Magic & Angel the ponies & Ernie the quarter horse) approaches you & asks if you might have a few horses sensible enough to do a 3 day local trek for her Mum & family in an attempt to tick off a major bucket list item……

Lou, Izzy, Sally, Jarnica (+ Ernie, Magic Buddy & Major) were hoof perfect amongst the obstacles thrown at them along the journey, including: kangaroos, foxes, barking dogs, gun fire (very close by 😬), fast cars, motorbikes, lawn mowers, alpacas & donkeys to name a few. Yes, there was some preparation that went into ensuring our horses were fit enough and that things ran smoothly but ….to say I’m proud of our 4 legged team members is an understatement.
What an experience 🙌🐴❤️.

During World War One, Australian horses (commonly known as Walers) were crucial to the ANZAC Light Horse regiments, primarily serving in the Middle East (Egypt and Palestine) as mounted infantry. They provided superior mobility over desert terrain, enabling rapid movements, scouting, and surprise attacks against Ottoman forces.

Unlike cavalry, the Light Horse used horses primarily for transportation to the battlefield. In combat, they operated in sections of four: one soldier held the horses while three fought on foot.

The Waler is an Australian breed of horse that was developed from horses that were brought to the Australian colonies in the 19th century. The name comes from their breeding origins in New South Wales; they were originally known as "New South Walers".

Our beautiful Dex is a waler x quarter horse. He is one of the most intelligent horses I have ever known and although I think he would be scared near any battlefield, I also know he would try his heart out to be brave when asked.

Imagine taking your horse to war with you, and returning home without them.

Lest we forget 🌺

I think it’s safe to say that our first two ‘On the Farm’ therapy sessions were a hit! I felt very lucky to be working alongside two inspiring women - Tori Wells, a brilliant Occupational Therapist, and Catherine Stein, an experienced Speech Pathologist and Neuroaffirming Allied Health Professional. Such a nice feeling working with likeminded women whose passions align perfectly.
It was pretty special to witness the difference in the kids, from the start of their session to the end & that made the 3 of us pretty darn happy!
