Our Griffins hockey season opener kicked off yesterday and it was such a great start to the season — plenty of smiles, energy, and awesome team spirit all around.

Many of you will know Karen, who has been a friendly, committed, and passionate presence in the Griffins Office for the last 2+ years. Karen will soon be stepping away from her staff role to focus on other commitments.

Karen has made an incredible impact on Griffins - not only as a team member, but also as a volunteer and a true culture champion. While we will absolutely miss her in the office, we’re grateful she’ll still be part of the Griffins family. With all five members of her household continuing to play, coach, and volunteer, we’re certainly not saying goodbye!

We are now recruiting an Administration Officer (10 hours per week) to join our team.

GSAS is excited to invite all Great Southern coaches to a free professional development workshop focused on one of the most important skills in coaching - communication.

Presented by Ian Crawford, How to Communicate So Athletes Listen, Trust & Perform is a practical session suitable for all levels of coaches, from beginners through to experienced coaches.

We’ll explore:
✔ how athletes actually receive information
✔ why good coaching advice is sometimes ignored
✔ simple communication strategies you can use immediately

This is a great opportunity to improve your influence and connect with coaches from a wide range of sports in our region.

Players will have the option to play in the girls league, the mixed league, or both. ⚽

🌟 Exciting Update for 2026! 🌟

We’re pleased to announce that the AJSA plans to offer Girls Only Leagues in 2026 (subject to sufficient team and player numbers.)

At this stage, competition structures and age groups will be finalised in the new year once we have gathered numbers and worked with our clubs on the best possible format.

Our goal is to give girls the chance to participate in both Girls and Mixed teams, where fixturing and scheduling allows. This is an exciting step toward expanding opportunities for girls across our region. ⚽💛

📣 Players and parents: If you’re interested in being part of Girls Football (and Boys/Mixed for that matter) in 2026, please reach out to your club and let them know your intentions early.

Your feedback will play a key role in shaping these competitions. If you're not already affiliated with a club, head to the AJSA website for more information.

We look forward to working closely with our clubs and community as we explore this exciting opportunity for football in the Great Southern. Stay tuned for updates! 🙌

Huge shoutout to our amazing Griffins hockey crew for a fantastic fundraising effort over the weekend! Massive thanks to the Pyle family for organising the lamb marking — such a big job and an even bigger effort by everyone involved. Well done, team! 💪🐑💚
