The hardest, shortest and the most procrastination.. is my weekly 45 min x 6-8 MAX 60 sec seated LOW CADENCE Efforts!
I really find that this session really helps my physiology and progression..
Mixed with my regular program of a Really Heavy Strength session, a couple of 3-4 hour relaxed Zone 2 rides (1 of those with a 20min threshold effort) and a shorter high cadence recovery ride, everything is on the up!
Focussing on clean nutrition (I’ve never really taken supplements regularly), good sleep and plenty of relaxation and regular relaxed walking the dog, energy levels and recovery is right up there😀
These high intensity efforts and heavy lifting is most important at my masters age of 57yo in keeping healthy, lean, light and strong.
Sustaining TOO HIGH a HR in long efforts is too fatiguing for myself and easily makes me perform worse.
So these efforts are usually left for races and the occasional group ride..
Long term high intensity, long efforts is not always great for our heart as we age, so just now and then is enough.
So I try to make my adaptations for racing in the healthiest, enjoyable and least stressful way possible.
Maybe I might not reach the pinnacle of performance, but maybe I will…?
But I definitely know that at 57yo, I have an abundance of energy, contentment and happiness with how I train and ride.
So that will do me😀
