Day 1 of the In-house Competition

Today we had the Level 1’s, Boys and Level 2’s put on a wonderful display of their gymnastics skills.

It was so lovely to watch how far all the girls and boys have improved.

Some wonderful costumes too.

We are very proud of all of our gymnasts today.

Congratulations!!

Competition Squad Vacancies

Many people ask what is involved in the competition gymnastics so I thought I would do some frequently asked questions about the competitive program.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many hours do they train?
The development team (level 1 and 2) train 2 nights a week for 2 hours Monday and Wednesday night.
Level 3 and 4 train 2 nights a week for 2 hours Monday and Wednesday night.
Level 5 and above train 3 nights a week Monday Wednesday and Friday.

What do they learn?
We teach the same skills as the children learn in our recreational program but often they pick up skills quicker because of the repetition with corrections and more gym time they develop the strength required to learn some skills.

How much does it cost?
All classes are billed by how many hours they spend in the gym whether they do the recreational or the competitive stream.

Is there a uniform?
Yes there is a competitive leotard and jacket that is required for competitions. Often parents sell these on when outgrown. We only charge what the company charges us. Rough cost of the competitive leotard is $166 (2026 cost) and the jacket is $115 (2026 cost).

How many competitions are there?
The development team can do up to 6 competitions in the year.
Level 3 and above have the option of 8 competitions in a year.
Every year we give the parents a schedule of when the competitions will be held and they can choose which ones they attend. The only competition that we like children to attend is Country Championships.

Where are competitions held?
Each year Pt Lincoln host an interclub competition based in Pt Lincoln. (June long weekend)
On the October long weekend Pt Pirie Gymnastics and Eyre Gymnastics (Whyalla) take it in turn to run an interclub themed competition.
All other competitions are held in Adelaide at the Marion Sports and Leisure Centre.
We also hold 1-2 in-house competition at our gym each year.

Who is eligible to register for the competition squads?
All children from Level 1 up are able to join a competitive group.

Do they train all year?
Like with the recreational stream the children train all year the competition season is generally between June and October each year.
The competitive squads take one week off over school holidays. However if families have holidays planned we don’t stop that. Family first.

Do they keep the same coach?
Sonya, Abby and Bianca are our competitive teams.
Bianca coaches the Development team (Level 1 and 2).
Sonya coaches Level 3 and Level 6/7’s.
Abby coaches Level 4, 5 and Level 6/7’s.

How many children are in each level?
Classes are kept small currently around 6 per class.

If you think you or your child may be interested or you have other questions please speak to Sonya.

Sporting Facilities Insights Survey.
Help Shape Our Future!

Just for a bit of background for you all. The club has been in consultation with council for a larger facility for the last 5+ years with no real sign of change occurring. We had our hopes high about 3 years ago when the council engaged a company to do concept designs and costings, but then that fell down due to the cost.

The club has grown in the last 10 years quicker than we could have imagined. As you well know we have had to stop enrollments at certain levels due to the numbers, and for the second time over the last 10 years we have a waiting list to join. In 2016 our first full year of operation we had on average of 65 gymnasts attending, to now in 2026 having 145 gymnasts attending. We have more than doubled our operations and engagement. When we started there was just 1 coach and now we have 2 full time coaches, 3 part time coaches and 4 junior coaches.

The club is a not-for-profit organisation, and therefore where we can money is constantly put back into the club. There is no huge pot of money stashed and no rich beneficiaries to rely on. Our aim has always been to keep the fees low so it is somewhat affordable for children to learn those fundamental movement skills that help so much with everything else from home, to school and other sports, as well as having fun.

Our heads are not in the sand, we see the growth, we see the deficits, we see the potential, we see the future. In order to keep moving and be able to offer this opportunity to others, we need to have changes to the facility. We were feeling disheartened that others did not see our vision, and our growth is being curbed. We have the potential to have the fastest growing gymnastics club regionally.

So today we are here….

The committee decided to engage a company “Club Builders – The Professionals” to assist us in making our dream become a reality.
They assist clubs to grow through grants, state & federal government funding, to repair or build a future. This is a 12-month journey we are entering. I’m sure the next 12 months is going to be filled with excitement, disappointments and hopefully a future for the club for years to come.

The start of this journey is to find out what is important to our consumers, not just the children who come to learn and the Coaches. It’s also about the parents, the grandparents, aunts, uncles and even family friends who come to watch their families grow and develop into amazing well-rounded members of society.
The survey running at the moment is just that a chance for you as the extended community to have your say about what is important.
The committee has our ideas of where things need to change but we need you to have your say.

Some of the areas the committee have identified that need work are:
· Gym space – more space for children to learn and move without fear of hitting someone else
· Improved toilet facilities and more of them including change rooms.
· Disabled toilet facilities
· Improved viewing areas for spectators
· A café - a place to be able to engage with others
· Improved equipment opportunities for children to develop skills
· Safer car parking
· Heating and cooling
· More storage
· More coaches
· More programs like
o Mummy and me classes
o Over 50’s
o Adult gym
o Tumbling
o Rehabilitation
o Special needs classes
I’m sure there are so many more ideas out there. This is where we have this fantastic opportunity to hear from you.

We are hoping that the future will take us to a new purpose-built gymnastics facility, where we have state of the art equipment and the opportunity to be able to hold state competitions and bring large numbers to the region.

It would be really appreciated if you haven’t already done so, please take the 15 mins to complete the survey being conducted by the Club Builders and be honest about what you think our direction / priorities should be. Share the survey with friends and family and encourage them to have their say. This is about the future and how we as a community can ensure Gymnastics is part of the future for this community.

As stated previously we will not see the results of the survey. The committee will get a report of where we are, what the community wants to see as the priorities, and a plan to make that happen.
Once we receive this, we will share this with everyone.
The next 12 months will be a journey for each and every one of us, and I want to share this journey with you.

Dear Club Members and Supporters

Sporting Facilities Insights Survey Help Shape Our Future | We Want to Hear from You.

We are writing to you today to seek your support and input as we implement an exciting initiative at the Club. We have engaged Club Builder 2035 to run a Sporting Facilities Insights Survey (“the Survey”) to help us better understand our facilities as we plan for the future of the Club.

The Survey and the resultant Insights Report will provide the Committee with clear insights into the thoughts, hopes and concerns of our members and stakeholders.

It is critical to the planning process that we hear your thoughts and views. Accordingly, Club Builder have prepared an online survey to capture your thoughts around some key questions about the club. We ask that all members, supporters and anyone that has an interest in the future of the club, takes the time to click through to the survey and provide your input. The survey will take approximately fifteen minutes to complete BUT the insights that you provide will provide benefit to the club both this year and beyond.

Please note that the survey responses will go directly to Club Builder and no-one from the Committee or Club Management will be able to see your responses. Club Builder will provide an anonymous summary of the survey results in a Strategic Insights Report. So, please feel comfortable to be open and honest in your responses.

The survey will be open from Thursday 20th May 5pm through till Monday 1st June 5pm.
