SIDEWAYS… BUT WITH A PURPOSE! 😜
We’ve been working on some side stretches using a resistance band — and it might look like we’re simply leaning sideways, but there’s actually a lot going on!
The band adds a little resistance and feedback, so we have to control the movement rather than just flop into the stretch. 💪
This helps us work on:
✅ Lateral flexibility – keeping the muscles through our sides, ribs and hips mobile.
✅ Core control – the trunk has to work to keep us stable as we move sideways.
✅ Posture and alignment – learning to move through the side of the body without twisting or collapsing.
✅ Strength through range – we’re not just stretching; we’re learning to control the movement.
✅ Body awareness – feeling where the band is pulling and responding to that tension.
✅ Functional movement – because life doesn’t only happen forwards and backwards! 😉
And perhaps most importantly, we’re practising controlled movement — moving into a position, managing the tension, and then returning with control.
It’s not about how far you can lean… it’s about how well you can control the movement.
Strong bodies need to be mobile AND stable — and sometimes the simplest-looking exercises are doing a whole lot more than you think! ❤️
