MENS COMPETITION

WWP get their first win!!!

More on that below.

6pm A grade game

Butchers and Rams started the night off. Both teams missing some players but all A grade games are dead rubbers as the ladder is set for finals. Still a close game, tied up at quarter time, half time and only 4 points in at the 3rd quarter. Brad Slattery hitting 20 points and Noah slattery 15 pts for the rams ran hard all game but the rams failed by just 1 point going down 55-54. Tom Walker 24 pts and Cooper Wright 15 points for the Butchers.

7pm B Grade games.

Coota Bulls and Flaming Donkeys played next and was a close 1st quarter but the Donkeys only managed 1 basket in the 2nd to put them behind at the half time break. Then Lhebz Zante 13 pts and Noel Ragutana 14 points went on a big run in the 3rd quarter to jump ahead and the Donkeys couldn’t catch up. Oscar Winchman 13 pts and Callum McCarthy 9 pts ran hard but the Bulls won 42-31.

WWP and hornets were up on court 1. Hornets only starting with 3 and managed a 4th player before half time. WWP haven’t had a win yet and they could taste victory but the hornets were not going to give it to them. Half time only 1 point in it but the 3rd quarter was owned by WWP or more so by Ryan Crowder. WWP went on a 19-3 run with young crowder hitting 4 x 3 pointers in the quarter. He finished with 5 for the game and 20 points. Hornets couldn’t recover and WWP got their first win 48-35. Josh Hackett with 10 points for WWP and Tom McAlister 17 points and Charlie McEwen 12 points for Hornets.

8pm A Grade.

Another dead rubber game but still a good game. Spartans exploded out of the blocks with a 20-2 1st quarter but typically have a bad quarter which was the 2nd. Phoenix caught up and at half time we’re only 6 behind.
High scoring 3rd quarter saw a lot of 3 pointers from Hayden Penrith but Phoenix were still behind by 4. Spartans looked like they had it won but another 3 pointer from Penrith saw the game tied up but 4 missed free throws at the end by Spartans resulted in a tie 46-46.
Hayden Penrith 20 points and Matt Walsh 14 points caused the damage for Phoenix while Cam McPherson 27 points and Steven Gentle 8 points were top scorers for Spartans. Better practice your free throws Cam.

1 more round to go then finals. a grade semis are set in concrete but the last B Grade games will determine the order for semis.

Just a reminder for bench duty players. If you are scoring during finals please concentrate on what you are doing. We had a game on Monday resulting in a draw whereby some free throws were made and not recorded on the scoresheet. Finals games will have a lot more intensity and for some are knock out games. The scoresheet is what we go off, not the scoreboard, it is final. If mistakes are made and not picked up on straight away then it could result in a team loosing and being knocked out. So if you make an error and it’s your team that looses then it’s on you. Players, please leave the score bench alone during games, if you think there is an error, ask the referees to have a look at it.
