It may very well be Easter, but that doesn’t mean it’s time for a holiday!

Phase 2 of training kicked off this morning with a 10km slow paced run around North Arm Cove.

Body is a little stiff and sore but otherwise feeling good!

Short steady sesh this morning. I’m using the last week of every month as a sort of de-load week.

These runs will generally be shorter and slower with a bigger focus on movement and breathing as opposed to distance or speed.

Looking forward to increasing distance next week ❤️😄💪🏻

After a slight scare on Friday, I was worried I may have done some damage. Happy to report that after 6km on the treadmill and some incline this morning, the body is holding up nicely!

I’m glad that I listened to both my body and better judgment yesterday and spent the day resting. ❤️💪🏻

Pain is your bodies way of saying somethings wrong, and you’ll do well to listen

Well..The first major obstacle of the adventure is upon us.

I tweaked my back whilst out in the yard yesterday. Isn’t it crazy how you can be training for a weekend of obstacle racing, running dozens of kms with conditioning sessions each week and doing some bloody weeding is the thing that brings you undone 🤷🏻‍♂️😂

I’m currently fighting that battle in my head. The one telling me that I should be out clocking up over 12kms on the trails today. Instead, I’m resting in the spa and on the lounge.

None the less, this challenge was never about breaking myself. It was always going to be about balance. And right now my body is telling me to rest and recover. A tactical retreat, live to fight another day kinda thing.

Pain is your bodies way of saying somethings wrong, and you’ll do well to listen”

9 years sober today ❤️💪

Sobriety is not for the faint of heart. You’ve got to want it more than anything else in the world. It’s not something that you just “do”.

As someone who has an addictive personality, I’m extremely grateful that I adopted a new lifestyle. One that promotes healthy habits and that focuses on positivity.

If you’re struggling with a similar decision, my advice would be to stop for a second. Think about what’s really important and I mean REALLY important in your life. And to think about if the current course you’re on has the potential to destroy those things.

I’m not saying it’s easy, because the truth is, it wasn’t.

But, if I was to think about the possibility of what could have been, it’s a decision that I would make 1000 times over.

Onwards and Upwards ❤️💪

“Being able to walk pain-free is a blessing. Being able to walk without showing the pain is a skill…”

Living with chronic pain can be debilitating and soul destroying, if you let it.

Remember that you always have a choice. The pain does not define who you are as a person. Is does not get the final say on how you get to live your life.

It takes courage, commitment and consistency but I can tell you this, the day you take action against your pain is that day that you’ll start to see life in color again.

Onwards and Upwards ❤️💪

Exposition

I thought I would provide a bit of background info before we hit the 🔥

When I was 9, I was diagnosed with Perthes Disease

Perthes Disease occurs mostly in children and it’s where the blood flow to the femoral head (ball part of the hip) is disrupted. This results in that part of the bone slowly dying.

Normally, this will occur really early on in childhood, say like around 2 years of age. Unfortunately for me, It started later on when and it was a really aggressive form of Perthes.

I had over 9 operations from the age of 9-12, the last of which being major hip reconstruction. That’s where I picked up my fancy metal hardware.

I have a steel plate that runs from just above my knee, up my femur and into my hip.

A lot of people ask if the plate will ever come out and the short answer is no. The holes that the screws would leave could cause the bone to shatter unless I’m under extended bed rest and, well, ain’t no body got time for that!

My condition has never stopped me nor have I never used it as an excuse.

In life, some of the best lessons you’ll ever learn is through pain, loss and or sacrifice.

They told me I would be in a wheelchair by the time I was 30. This weekend I turned 35 and I celebrated with a 6km hike with one big ass hill.

My condition does not define who I am as person and it does not speak for my past, present or future. I CHOOSE to focus on the positives and to make sure I do everything I can to maintain a happy and healthy lifestyle.

I am a Personal Trainer and an Obstacle Course Racing LOVER! I’ve completed over 25 races in the last 10 years.

Overcoming obstacles is in my blood. The Trifecta weekend in September is simply another obstacle I will overcome.

So there’s a little bit of a back story. Now that that’s out of the way, we can get on to the fun stuff! Onwards and Upwards! 😏💪❤️

Howdy Team

It’s been a minute, that much is for certain.

I’ve been lying dormant over that last year or so, still trying to stay as consistent as possible.

There’s no such thing as excuses but the back and the hip have just been causing havoc for me.

A memory came up whilst scrolling the other day. Photos of a a few years ago and it sparked something inside.

That spark really caught fire when the messaged me not 24 hours later suggesting we !

So, to cut a long story short… WE GO AGANE! 😂💪

Spartan Race Trifecta Weekend,
Marulan, 16th/ 17th September-
SPRINT SUPER BEAST
36+km and approx 100 obstacles.

My aim over the next 6 months is to use this platform to share my training strategies and to hopefully shed some light on how to train and live with a chronic, debilitating injury.

With any luck, I might just inspire some other crazy bastards out there to get up and get moving and to not let any obstacle get in our way! Onwards and Upwards ❤️💪

Find your weakness and attack it!

I failed the rope climb during my first ever way back in 2013. I decided that would be the only time I’d ever have to burpee out on that obstacle ever again. I went back home and trained on a rope for months, built up my endurance and technique and now I look forward to the rope climb instead of dreading it.

No matter what it is in life, look for a weakness and turn it into a strength ❤️💪 and
