“The Last Waltz” - staff of the Hills Golf Academy had a dinner together at Jimboomba House last night to say goodbye. Ian Peters, Bradley Neinaber,Lisa Gwin, Ben Holley, Tom Berndt, Tony Mahoney, Ken Berndt and Jim Duncan reminisced the good times they had working with the golf students at Hills as well as the fun they had working together as a team. It was estimated that over 100 students that came through HGA turned professional over the years. The recipe of golf training on the range, an 18 hole golf course adjacent to the school, dormitory living on site, world class coaching, psychology training, strength and conditioning training, national and intrrnational tournament schedules, SAT classes, US College pathways and quality school education will be difficult to ever replicate again The staff can be proud of the legacy they left on golf in Queensland and the world.

A truely amazing day for two special Hills International Golf Academy and Hills College Alumni on Sunday at the LPGA Tours Malaysian Maybank Championship played in Kuala Lumpur.

As reported Mirabel Ting was T10th after a sensational third round of -8 64 to be sitting on 10 under par. Her Hills Golf Academy counterpart Ashleigh Lau had completed 3 rounds sitting on 9 under par and they were paired together in the Final round in the 6th to last group.

They put on a fantastic showing in the last round both firing competive 2 under par 70s.
The were followed by a large gallery of Malaysian supporters and among them was our man on the ground Rizal Redzuan who captured some amazing photos of our two girls in action on the biggest stage.

Mirabel ended up on -12 T12 and Ashleigh one shot back on 11 under was T 18th with 5 others tied on Mirabel’s score.

We congratulate them both on their amazing performances in such a huge event, presenting themselves on the world stage as Champions of the future and helping the legacy of the Hills Golf Academy, renowned for developing and preparing elite players for Professional Golf at the very highest level.

Keep up the progress Ladies. Hills Golf Academy is bristling with pride of your performance’s and we all look forward to much more to come. Congratulations to you both.

Hills Alumni Mirabel Ting is making her mark on the World stage this week playing in the Maybank Championship a LPGA Tour event played in Kuala Lumpur.

Mirabel grabbed TV attention in round one going 5 under par with a very good 67 to be amongst the contenders. A disappointing 3 over par 75 in round two dropped her down the board but she still made the half way cut.

Fireworks were produced on moving day, when after turning in a very sound 2 under par she produced 6 birdies on the back nine with 3 pars to sign for a stunning round of -8 64 to move up to T 10th as she enters the last round.

This is Mirabels first LPGA Tour event, the pinnacle tour for female golfers and she has already shown she has the game and is comfortable in the highest echelon of Women’s Golf.

The Hills Golf Academy wishes to congratulate Mirabel and share our pride in her fantastic performance thus far. Good luck and great form for the final round Mirabel we are all watching and right behind you.

Last Wednesday produced excellent scoring with 3 personal best scores achieved.

Kerra Sakdikornthanasiri got to 7 under par once more, after getting to that mark just a fortnight ago, taking 14 holes to do it this time. The finishing stretch jumped out and bit him once again, making three bogies in last 4 holes to shoot a 4 under par 67 on the par adjusted Beaudesert layout. This was good enough to take out the best gross of the day by four strokes from Danny Lin.

Sa rang Kim continues to shine shooting her personal best of 86 to have 41 Stableford points and tie with Kerra.

Then came Taj Khinda with a personal best of 82 producing 39 Stableford points.

It is rewarding to see these young players improving so much from the beginning of the year, motivating them to keep working hard and smart, and also giving them confidence that they can continue to improve.

Kerra Sakdikornthanasiri produced a sensational run of holes on his way to a two under par gross 69 on the adjusted Beaudesert Golf Course on Wednesday.

He got off to a great start with birdies on holes 1, 4 and 5 before holing a one metre putt for Eagle on the 6th hole to stand 5 under par after 6 holes.

He turned in -5 31 and went in to make birdies on 12 and 13 to be 7 under at that stage.

A par 3 on the in the alternative 14 was unfortunately followed by a double bogey 5 on the difficult 15th. With a significant storm on its way Kerra stumbled and finished with three straight bogeys but still finishing two under par. This was his first round under par and despite the less than ideal finish he has grown confidence and knows now he can get get to 7 under.

Ashton Gurung had the second best Gross with one over par 72 despite a triple bogey 8 on the sixth hole.

Kerra won the Stableford with 39 points followed by Aston Gurung, Danny Lin and Sa rang Kim all recording 36 points

Saxxon Ford slipped down the leader board to sixth position in the final round of the Jack Newton International Junior Golf Classic

Starting the last round one shot behind the leader he opened up with 10 straight pars before birdying the par 11th to go one under for the round and four under for the tournament, which put him 3 strokes behind the lead with seven holes to play.

Realising he needed birdies to catch up in the last seven holes he pushed the envelope with aggressive play, that on this occasion didn’t pay off

Firstly getting into green side trouble when trying to hit his second shot on the green of the par 5 14th leading to an unwelcome bogey but went on to birdie the par three 15th.

That’s where the charge ended unfortunately with Saxxon dropping 4 strokes in the final 3 holes to finish on level par 288 and 6th place.

We congratulate Saxxon on a wonderful performance, getting himself into position to contend and giving his all. Much will be learned from the experience and will hold him in strong stead when he contends next.
