THIS IS MY WHY
This morning on my walk I passed an older couple making their way up the mountain.
At first, I simply walked past them.
A few minutes later, I turned around and went back to talk to them.
Why?
Because they were clearly struggling, yet they had deliberately chosen the hardest route up and over the mountain.
I had to know why.
He is 83 years old. His hip and knee barely move after years of punishment from playing rugby league.
She is 80 years old with two “bung” knees from a lifetime of looking after him and everyone else around her.
When I asked them why they still do it, their answer made me smile.
Not because it was surprising.
Because it was exactly what I expected.
Exactly what I believe.
Exactly why I train and why I encourage my clients to keep moving.
“To be able to do this for the next 15 to 20 years.”
Then he said something I’ll never forget:
“Never stop moving. What once took me 20 minutes now takes me 2 hours, but I’m not stopping.”
That right there is why I do what I do.
It’s not about six-packs.
It’s not about chasing PBs.
It’s not about being the fastest, strongest or fittest person in the room.
It’s about still being able to walk the mountain at 80.
It’s about carrying your own groceries.
Getting up off the floor.
Playing with your grandchildren.
Travelling.
Exploring.
Living independently.
Movement is freedom.
One day, all of us will slow down.
The goal isn’t to stop that from happening.
The goal is to make sure we never stop moving.
That’s the message I want all my clients to remember.
Train today so you can keep doing the things you love tomorrow.
Keep moving. Always.
