Long time between posts as life has been super busy with a lot happening.

The 2023 hunt/cull bought me one of the best Red Deer Roars I've seen with a lot of firsts. Driving into the proprety we were greeted by a koala on the track, then saw my first wild echidna and then we had a goanna decide to have a meal right next to our camp. The cattle on the property were always there to keep me entertained as well as invade camp from time to time. For those that dont know, ever since i have embarked on my shooting and hunting journey i have develoed a love for the cattle on the property we travel too and a massive respect for the animals we hunt. Seeing these creatures do what they do is a mix of breathtaking, exciting and sometime even a little nerve racking. I understand more every year what we do during the roar and how it helps the area.

3 years in and slowly getting a handle on things. This year i restricted myself too 2 rifles one being my tikka 270win for day hunting and the other being my browning xbolt 308win thermal for night hunting. Both of which did not dissapoint. Working on my calls is always a laugh, managed to call up 3 stags one time then on another time im pretty sure the cattle we all laughing at me for trying a deer roar and wild dog call.

Spending a week camping, hunting, drinking and laughing while sharing hunting stories with family and friends is one of my favourite times of the year.

Thank you to everyone who helped put this trip together, you know who you are.

Sorry ive been a bit quite on the posting front. Its been a very busy few months. But here it is... the gun/reloading room has begun. Not only that but all the new gear has arrived for this years hunting trip during the red roar. To say i am excited is a massive under statement. Big plans and more updates to come. :)

Its the start of the new year and i am sure 2022 is going to be a great year. Plenty of plans for the year, looking at setting up a reloading room, wanting to do a lot more hunting and once these restrictions are lifted it will be great to get back to the range for some comps and practice.

I had a 2am early morning wake up for my first hunt of the year this morning. My brother in law and i set off chasing my first wild dog or a dream red deer. Seen a few roo's but i dont shoot them so while i didnt even manage to fire a single round. The company was great, the weather was awesome and be out walking around chasing these creatures we chase was an amazing start to the day.

Cant wait to have another crack at some more reds late in the year.

Anschutz 22lr Rimfire Fly Rifle update.

Today was very exciting for me as the finishing piece of my 200m Fly competition rifle is complete. All that remains is for me to tune it up with the Irakanji hunstman lite tuner and do some testing to get it dialled in.

Massive shout out and thanks to Lee from Trentech Engineering for fitting up my tuner and also sorting out a custom thread protector for my rpr in 6.5cm. It was great to have a chat to Lee who took the time to answer all my question. Was a great experience with great prices.

His knowledge and craftmanship are excellant and i would highly recommend him. Not only that but i run his scope mounts on the Anschutz and i will soon be changing to his scope mounts on a few of my other rifles. The quality of these products are brilliant. Head on over to his page and check him out. After our chat today i will definatly be going back once i have saved up the coin to work with him for a full custom dual port bench rifle for heavy gun fly shooting in a calibre that will not be disclosed (you will have to wait and see).

Thanks again and cant wait to see the result i get out of the old girl now.

Anschutz 22lr rimfire fly rifle update:

I have to say great service is one of the first things i look for then i worry about the price. Once again the team at BRT Shooters Supply have done it again. I placed this order very late at night on Thursday last week and i received the order this morning.

I ordered more that what is seen here but these 3 items are specifically for the Anschutz.

Cant wait to get the tuner mounted and tighten up those 200 yard groups.

Shooting a shotgun has always been a bit of a "scary" prospect for me as the first time i unleashed the 12 guage beast at my safety course i couldnt hit a stationary cardboard box at 25 yards.

After discussions with some good mates i decided to bite the bullet and head into Shooter's Delight and pick myself up an entry level over under Huglu. Last weekend was definatly an eye opening taking it out for the first time and scarying a few clay targets but after a few rounds (and by a few i mean alot) i managed to pick it up fairly well.

This past saturday me and a mate decided to head out again and scare a few more clays... this time was a different story my shooting has improved out of sight in just my second shoot and now i am very keen to try a few comps at SSAA IPSWICH.

After having multiple rounds of 10 clays at a time i shot consistently over 80% with a few perfect 10/10. (We were doing one shot per clay)

Really looking forward to having a crack at some clay comps to see how i go.

Unfortunately we had so much fun this weekend we forgot to take some happy snaps but here is a vid from my first day at the clay range.

Tonights marks the first competition 200 yard rimfire fly shoot for my Anschutz 22LR. SSAA Belmont put on some tricky conditions but i am very happy with my results. Took me a while to get into the swing but managed a 5th place overall with a score of 243.01 with the winner scoring 267.04 (Well done Fi great shooting)

I want to say a massive thank you to Mark from Kaizen Tactical, he has been helping me out along the way with everything from gear selection to work in with my budget and also giving me little hints along the way with my shooting and reading the wind.

I also want to give a massive shout out to BRT Shooters Supply, ive been slowly chipping away buying the bits i need for this rifle (and others) and they always provide great service and quick delivery times. The products are always top quality and i cant wait to purchase my tuner and see the groups shrink even more.

I still have a long way to go but every step forward is looking more and more promising. I cant wait to be able to start shooting 300 metre CF fly and test out the 6.5cm

Pretty excited with the progression of the Anschutz 64 competition 22lr.

Almost everything is ready to go with the last delivery arriving today. Massive thanks to BRT Shooters Supply & Kaizen Tactical. Love the new toys i have received and cant wait to try them out.

I took the rifle out for its first shoot and testing of ammo. The Eley match performed well but i have settled on the RWS R100. Now all that is left to do is sort out the tuner to dial in the ammunition a little more and i should be ready to go.

It took me over 75 rounds to get used to it but i managed to get 3 ok groups at 100 yards with the 22lr which i am really happy with.

Still a long way off the guys and girls at the comp but im getting closer.

Update:

Pretty devestated atm, been waiting 3 weeks longer than first told for a gun part for my comp 22lr which i still havent got to shoot yet. then decided to book a range day this weekend for some fun and have come down sick.

Also found out that the first 270 i purchased that shot like a potatoe gun is on its way back from the manufacturer and "apparently" its fine even after 3 different shooters and 5 different types of ammo were tested. Now i will need to sell/trade it with only 40 rounds through it as i bought the tikka to replace it.

Hopefully it all get sorted soon amd i feel better to get out for some more practise and hunting.
