Olympic Fun & Fitness / The Wilding Project

Olympic Fun & Fitness / The Wilding Project Olympic & The Wilding Project specialise in recreational gymnastics and parcour classes for kids. Olympic has been teaching people how to move since 1978!

We specialise in Gymnastics, Parkour, Free-Running and Natural Movement for children, young people and adults. We believe there is no reason why the movements we learn as children should not be available to us in our adult years so we made a place to deliver qualitymovement programs for all ages. We're more than just a gymnastics club!

It's OLYMPIC DAY!.. That means today we honour our founding member. Two x Olympian VAL NORRIS.

Today's date, June 23rd, is the date the International Olympic Committee started way back in 1894 in Paris, France.

'Olympic Day' encourages people worldwide to get active, embrace the Olympic spirit and make time for daily movement.

Val started gymnastics at 15yrs and went on to represent Australia at two Olympic Games.

TOKYO in 1964 and MEXICO in 1968.

Val is a four-times Australian National Gymnastic Champion (1965, 1966, 1968 and 1969) and even won the North Holland Gymnastics Championships in 1967, while training overseas. In 1966, she competed at the 1st World Championships for Women's Gymnastics in Dortmund, Germany.

In 1966, Val Buffham married cyclist Ken Norris OAM.

Val is listed as a Life Member with Gymnastic WA, an All Time Great with the WA Sports Federation, and the City of Cockburn's Sports Hall of Fame.

In 1978 Val started a gymnastics club. Back then it was called the 'Val Norris Christian College of Gymnastics Inc' and in 1985 the club was renamed the 'Olympic Gymnastic Academy'.

While coaching, Val saw how gymnastics could benefit all shapes and sizes and not just the bodies that were 'made' for gymnastics. This experience led Val to create a range of programs that had a foundation in gymnastics, but focused on training young people for participation in a wide variety of sports.

The club's 'STEP' program was founded in 2006, under another new rebranding of the club. 'Olympic Fun and Fitness'.

The 'STEP' program, made specifically for primary school aged children, is an effective fundamental movement program for kids that has had a positive effect on thousands of young children since its inception.

In 2016 under new management, son Damien Norris implemented a new and emerging form of movement called 'PARCOUR' which was developed in France in the late 1980s by teenager David Belle, who drew inspiration from his father's military obstacle course training.

The club strives to successfully deliver non-competitive Recreational Gymnastics and Parcour to promote healthy lifestyle's, improve activity levels and confidence in young people.

THANKYOU 'Val Norris' for founding our club, and having a huge impact on thousands of young Australian's.

Val is currently on vacation with husband Ken, son Damien and grandson Remy in Vancouver Canada.

Feel free to give Val a Thumbs up 👍or Love heart ❀on her 'OLYMPIC DAY'. - Once an Olympian, Always an Olympian.

Move over kids. It was the PARENT’s TURN!!

Mums and Dads of the club were treated a complimentary class as a gift to say ‘THANKYOU’ for being apart of our amazing community.

The aim was to help them understand the sensations that their kids feel during training.

Such as being upside down, swinging on a bar, balancing on a beam, or jumping into a pit.

They had a BLAST.

‘Olympic & The Wilding Project’ is much more than teaching skills.

TEN PRACTICAL TIPS for PARENTS. Keeping kids healthy while participating in sport during winter.

We HAD to cover this topic. It has been FRRREEZING lately đŸ„¶.. reaching a chilly 1.5 degrees in Perth W.A.

Here are our 10 top tips for keeping kids healthy and warm during winter sport.

1. Dress appropriately for the weather – Wear layers that can be added or removed as body temperature changes during activity.

2. Eat nutritious meals and snacks – Fuel active bodies with plenty of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean proteins, and dairy or alternatives.

3. Stay hydrated – Layers can lead to sweating. Encourage regular water intake, even when children don't feel as thirsty in cooler weather.

4. Warm up before activity – A proper warm-up helps increase blood flow, prepare muscles and joints for exercise and reduces injury risk.

5. Cool down afterwards – Gentle stretching and light movement can aid recovery and reduce muscle soreness.

6. Stay warm after training – Kids are vulnerable to illness with a decrease in temp due to a sudden stop in exercise. Ensure to place a tracksuit, socks and footwear on for the drive home.

7. Practice good hygiene – Wash hands regularly and avoid sharing drink bottles to help prevent the spread of winter illnesses.

8. Manage minor illnesses wisely – Keep children home from sport if they have a fever or are feeling unwell to prevent worsening symptoms and spreading infections.

9. Maintain regular physical activity – Encourage participation in training and active play to support fitness and mental wellbeing throughout winter.

10. Support mental wellbeing – Keep sport fun, positive, and social so children stay motivated, connected, and confident during the colder months.

These habits can help children stay healthy, active, and ready to enjoy their sport throughout the winter season.

Sleepover 2026. Done & Dusted.

The 'Girls Only' sleepover event on Sat June 6th was INCREDIBLE.

Our coaches delivered various fun games, and challenges for over 30 students.

They were also treated to plenty of pizza options for dinner, and a good healthy cereal breakfast in the morning.

For many families it was their daughters first overnight sleep over. They had a BLAST.

There were plenty of tired girls in the morning, with blood shot eyes, but extremely satisfied with the fun and safe events throughout the night.

THANKYOU to everyone involved.

These kids are FLYING. Our Outdoor Parcour students have been INSPIRING us.

The training sites we have been using for our outdoor classes have been buzzing.

The incredible 'Kara Park' and 'Lake Treeby' have provided movement opportunities for our coaches to deliver skills from our curriculum.

We have a few classes to go in Term 2 to give it a go.

Our classes are purchased as a block and run based on weather. So 'we go with it'. Classes are simply postponed to the following week if affected by rain.

Contact the club to join in the fun!
