South East Queensland Cricket Representative Team Selection
Eligibility Policy Applicable to Under 15, Under 16, Under 18 and Open Representative Cricket Programs
1. Purpose
This policy sets out the eligibility requirements that junior and senior players must satisfy to be considered for selection in South East Queensland Cricket (SEQC) representative teams.
2. Scope
This policy applies to players seeking selection in SEQC Under 15, Under 16, Under 18 and Open representative sides.
3. Eligibility Requirements
3.1 Pre-Christmas Match Requirement
Players must play a minimum of five (5) matches days before Christmas in a competition governed by an SEQC affiliate, being Logan District Cricket or Cricket Ipswich.
3.2 Post-Christmas Match Requirement
Players must also play a minimum of five (5) matches after Christmas in a competition governed by an SEQC affiliate, being Logan District Cricket or Cricket Ipswich, unless an approved exemption applies under this policy.
3.3 Match Participation Requirement
For a match to count towards eligibility, the player must take the field and participate in the match. Being selected, listed in a team or named in the playing squad does not constitute a match played for the purposes of this policy.
3.4 Participation in Other Competitions
Players must not play in another competition outside those governed by an SEQC affiliate unless the competition is expressly recognised as eligible under this policy. An exception applies to Logan players participating in the Gold Coast Second (2nd) Grade and Third (3rd) Grade senior competitions, which are deemed eligible country-based competitions for the purposes of
this policy.
4. Exemptions and Competition Classifications
4.1 School Cricket Exemption Players participating in school cricket after Christmas are exempt from the post-Christmas five-match
days requirement, provided they have completed the required five (5) pre-Christmas matches days in an eligible SEQC-affiliated competition.
4.2 General Absence, Injury and Medical Exemption
SEQC may, at its discretion, grant an exemption or variation to the match participation requirements where a player has been unable to meet the requirements due to injury, illness, a medical condition,
representative duties, approved holidays, family commitments, relocation, or any other significant circumstance that has materially affected the player's availability for an extended period. Any request for exemption must be submitted in writing and may require supporting evidence, including medical documentation where relevant. Each request will be assessed on its individual merits, taking into account the player's prior participation, availability, circumstances, and the intent of this policy.
4.3 Cricket Ipswich Hornets Queensland Premier Cricket Eligibility Recognition A player who participates for the Cricket Ipswich Hornets in the Queensland Premier Cricket competition, including Lord Taverners and any higher-grade Queensland Premier Cricket competition, may remain eligible for SEQC representative selection where the player continues to satisfy the applicable Queensland Country eligibility requirements and has a demonstrated prior connection to SEQC, including previous eligibility for SEQC representative selection before commencing participation
with the Cricket Ipswich Hornets in Queensland Premier Cricket. This recognition is intended to support the progression of SEQC pathway players into Queensland Premier Cricket while preserving SEQC eligibility for players who maintain a genuine Queensland Country and SEQC eligibility background.
4.4 BMC Cricket Classification BMC is classified as District Cricket and not Club Cricket. BMC matches do not count towards a player's
SEQC representative selection eligibility. 5. Restrictions on Other Representative Trials Players must not have trialled for, or participated in trials for, any other zone or district representative
team during the current season. 6. Registration and Ongoing Participation Any player who registers and plays for a club is expected to meet the eligibility requirements outlined in
this policy. The player must satisfy the applicable match requirements before being eligible for SEQC representative selection.
7. Springwood Suns
Springwood junior players may trial for SEQC representative selection.
To be considered for selection to an SEQC representative team, a Springwood junior player must meet the
following eligibility requirements throughout the entire cricket season, both before and after Christmas:
- Play Senior Cricket in the Logan District Cricket Association (LDCA);
- Play a minimum of five (5) days before Christmas;
- Play a minimum of five (5) days after Christmas;
- Take the field and participate in each match for the match to count towards the player's eligibility. Being
selected, named on a team sheet, or being an unused substitute will not count;
- Not trial for, or participate in trials for, any other district representative team during the current season; and
- Not play in any other cricket competition outside competitions governed by an SEQC affiliate.
For the purpose of this policy, participation in competitions such as Sub-District Cricket or Community Cricket
will make the player ineligible for SEQC representative selection.
This exception for Springwood junior players applies only while the Springwood Suns have Senior teams
participating in the Logan District Cricket Association (LDCA). If the Springwood Suns cease to have Senior
teams participating in the LDCA, this exception will no longer apply.
The eligibility requirements apply for the full season, both pre-Christmas and post-Christmas. A player must
continue to meet these requirements to remain eligible for consideration for SEQC representative selection.
Meeting these eligibility requirements does not guarantee selection in an SEQC representative team. Selection
will be determined through the relevant selection process and will take into consideration the player's
performance, ability, conduct and other selection criteria.
8. Selection Discretion and Final Determination
Meeting the eligibility requirements does not guarantee selection in an SEQC representative side.
Selection will be based on the relevant selection process and may consider a player's performance,
ability, conduct, availability and suitability for the team.
SEQC reserves the right to determine whether a player's participation satisfies the eligibility requirements
of this policy. Where there is any uncertainty regarding eligibility, the final determination will be made by
SEQC.
