🔥 Last night we had the Tafa Gang Whānau in the house! 🔥

We are truly honoured to have the team come through and bless the whare.

The Tafa family has strong connections to the UFC and has played a huge role in representing New Zealand and the Pacific Islands on the world stage. To have them share the mats, knowledge, and experience with our team was something special.

BJJ is about more than training it’s about community, respect, and learning from those who have walked the path before us. We are grateful for the time, energy, and wisdom shared with our athletes.

A huge congratulations to everyone who received their stripes and belts this grading! 👏

It was an awesome night celebrating the hard work, consistency, and progress our team has shown so far this year. Every stripe and belt earned represents countless hours on the mats, overcoming challenges, and continuing to improve.

💙 Farewell, Ezekiel Jadraque 💙

Since joining us in 2022, Ezekiel has been an incredible part of the HUIA family. During his time with us, he has achieved an amazing milestone of over 100 wins on Smoothcomp 🏆 — a reflection of his hard work, dedication, and passion for the sport.

But beyond the medals and victories, Ezekiel has been a fantastic role model for our younger students. His consistency, humility, and commitment to improving every day have inspired everyone around him.

As he prepares to return to the Philippines, it is hard to put into words how much we are going to miss him. We have loved every moment of being part of his journey, from his very first days on the mats to watching him grow into the athlete and young man he is today.

It has been an absolute privilege to coach you, mate. Thank you for the memories, the hard work, and the positive impact you’ve had on our team.

We know you’ll continue to do great things and proudly represent the Philippines wherever your journey takes you. 🇵🇭

🖤 Big Weekend for Team HUIA 🖤
This weekend we had athletes competing across both JMMAC and Inception Fight Series, and while not every result went our way, we couldn’t be prouder of every single person who stepped up and represented our team.
Combat sports are full of highs and lows. Sometimes your hand gets raised, and sometimes you learn valuable lessons that help shape the next chapter of your journey. This weekend gave us plenty to reflect on, plenty to improve, and plenty of motivation for what’s next. We have no doubt that everyone will come back stronger, sharper, and more determined than ever.

Inception Fight Series
👏 Elliot Keating – Winner by Doctor’s Stoppage
A fantastic debut performance. While it wasn’t the way you wanted the fight to end, you showed great composure, professionalism, and skill. Well done.
👏 Kayne Scandlyn
Faced a very tough and skilled opponent. He showed incredible heart, never stopped pushing forward, and unfortunately came up short on the judges’ scorecards.
👏 Hamuera Robinson
Took on a strong opponent who stuck to his game plan. Despite the setback, this experience will only make him better moving forward.
👏 Aiden Muraahi
Matched up against a highly skilled brown belt and showed outstanding resilience, cage defence, and determination throughout the fight. Unfortunately, he lost by decision, but his performance showed the heart of a true martial artist.
A massive thank you to all of our supporters, family members, and friends who were there every step of the way. Your support, encouragement, and belief in our athletes means more than words can express.

🔥 GRADING WEEK IS HERE! 🔥

Next week is Grading Week, and we’re excited to have a special guest joining us!

We’re proud to welcome James Woonton to Huia Martial Arts, where he’ll be running a seminar before grading kicks off.

This will be a No-Gi seminar, so come ready to train and learn from one of the best. Make sure to also bring your Gi and belt so we can grab some team photos after the seminar and celebrate the night together.
