INVERLOCH BOWLING CLUB REPORT
WEEK ENDED: SUNDAY, 6 SEPTEMBER 2026.

Last Thursday saw the opening of the 2026/27 bowling season at Inverloch and it was great to see more than 60 people turn up for the opening under threatening skies and a stiff breeze.

The opening bowls were delivered by the reigning Men’s Champion, Keith Cousens and Anne Tschiderer, who was the runner-up Ladies Champion and standing in for the Ladies Champion, Lorraine Dowson, who is currently overseas having been an officiating umpire at the recent Commonwealth Games in Scotland.

The opening ceremony was followed by two-ten end games comprising a mixture of fours and triples.

All bowlers found it a ‘difficult day at the office’ due to the ever-present wind which was a little flukey in its strength. However, despite this, six teams won both of their games.
Finishing in equal fourth place with two wins and 30 points, were the teams of Keith Cousens (skip), Rob Howard (third), Pat MacKay (Second) and Andrew Rowe (lead); Geoff Coleman, Karen Orford, Jill Kennedy and Pam Sutcliffe; Martin Hannaford, Paul Davis, Ryan Luke and Harry Evans who was ably supported by Bateman. The Hard-Luck Story went to the team of Gary Scott, Carol Hughes and Bill Brown with two wins, 32 points and 12 shots-up. The Runners-up, with two wins, 32 points and 19 shots-up were Mal Marshall, Carol Waters and John Cook. But, taking out the top prize with two wins and 33 points were Reg Varty, Steve Snelling, Patrick Bowd and Max Wightman.

Following the presentations the group enjoyed a sumptuous afternoon tea with a lot of discussion concerning whose bowl did this and how the wind affected the line, all I might add in a very jovial manner.

On Friday, 4 September, a large crowd gathered at the Club where the Club’s Membership draw took place with $100 being up for grabs, and all you had to do was to be in the clubrooms at the time of the draw when your name was randomly selected. Membership number 17 (Alan Briggs) was drawn however Alan was not present and accordingly the next membership-draw will be $120. The ‘Pick of the Table’ was won by #216 (Frank Thomas).

The Lucky Envelopes went to; $50 (Judy Thomas & Debbie Marshall, $20 (Joyce Arnold) with the $10 going to John Sutcliffe and the final table draw was won by visitor, Kerrie Reynolds.

Congratulations to all the winners on the night, the next Membership Draw will be on 18 September so come along and join in the fun.

Also, thanks are extended to the following volunteers who made the evening; Judy Parker, Jill Edwards, Bill Brown, Mary Ferguson, Shirley Scott and of course, the emcees, John Sutcliffe and Bill Massier.

Regards
Reg Varty

Winners are grinners. Winners of the 2026/27 Season Opening day at Inverloch were (from left), Steve Snelling, Reg Varty, Patrick Bowd and Max Wightman.

Re: Handbook

The 2026/2027 handbook is ready for printing, however, before doing so

would you please check that the information contained in last's year's handbook is correct.

If you have any alterations/corrections please email joyb (joybrown3996..com).

Uniforms - Also, should have also mentioned uniform collection "Distribution Day - Monday 7th September" timing will be 9.30 - 1.00pm. It would be appreciated if all members who have ordered new uniforms adhere to this timetable. As you can appreciate, the ordering, purchasing, etc. has been quite an ordeal and it will be a 'relief' (to say the least) to have this exercise completed. Jon will be in attendance to collect payment, but payment before hand via bank transfer would be appreciated.

Pennant Practice Games - it is very pleasing to see all pennant players (and all Inverloch members for that matter) putting in 'practice time' - the season is fast approaching and I am very excited about the players we have this year - it is going to be a 'great year' for Inverloch. I have been a member of Inverloch (albeit not always representing Inverloch) for many years and I don't recall witnessing the enthusiasm being evident this early in the season for many years. With this in mind, please ensure that you have your names on the practice lists, and also if unavailable please indicate on the list. Lists and lists, but they are necessary.

If you have any questions, please feel free to give me a call - I want all members of our Club
to feel they are contributing.

Cheers .. joyb

Member's Night Tomorrow - 4/9/26

Good Morning/Afternoon All,

A reminder that it is our Member's Night again tomorrow night from 5pm at the Bowling Club.

The jackpot draw is $100.00 again tomorrow night following Harry's win last time.

Plenty to chat about with the business end of the football season upon us, the opening of our Bowls Season today and of course the weather.

I hope you can make it along tomorrow and take home some cash or a raffle prize.

Best wishes

John Sutcliffe

Inverloch Bowling Club -Thursday Social Bowls - 20/8/26

On Thursday at our Inverloch Bowling Club’s Social Bowls the weather was a beautiful sunny day and almost perfect, except for the wind, which certainly tested everyone’s skills, and looks of disbelief crossed many faces as the wind played havoc with bowls, but it certainly provided good practice for us all in windy conditions. We have been spoilt lately with a run of very still days and nothing to blame but ourselves for any wayward shots. The players all enjoyed the good company of their fellow bowlers and were once again treated to Jim’s amazing minestrone soup at lunchtime. There were 53 bowlers in attendance and 14 teams made up of 11 teams of fours and 3 teams of triples. At the end of the day there were five, two game winners with results calculated by shots up. The Runners’ Up went to the team of Neil Everitt, Carol Thorn, Paul Davis and Bill Brown finishing with 16 shots up and the Winners of the day went to John Sutcliffe, Dianne Selby, Ryan Luke and Harry Evans finishing with 19 shots up. Well done everyone. Don’t forget to put your names down on the sheet by 9.00am on Thursdays if you want to play.

Thanks to Match Committee again and to all the people who help out on the day.

Winners photo names: L-R : John Sutcliffe (Skip), Dianne Selby (Third) Harry Evans (Lead) and Ryan Luke (Second)
