Inverell Shire Council is pleased to advise that the Inverell Mountain Bike Track has reopened following the successful reformation of the Inverell Mountain Bike Club Inc. and the ex*****on of a new licence agreement for the management of the facility.
At its Ordinary Meeting held on 27 May 2026, Council received and noted a report confirming that the Club had officially reformed following its Annual General Meeting on 6 May 2026. The outcome follows Councilโs earlier decision in April to suspend the Expressions of Interest process to allow the community an opportunity to re-establish the Club and continue the long-standing community-led management of the facility.
Following a public meeting in April, community members resolved to hold an AGM to determine the future of the Club. The meeting, held at McDonaldโs Inverell, resulted in the election of a new Executive Committee, comprising President Stewart Johnston, Vice President Dan Harmon, Secretary Jordan Daemon and Treasurer Manuel Meszaros.
Council was subsequently advised that the Club had commenced the process of re-affiliation with AusCycling to secure insurance coverage and had requested an updated licence agreement to enable the facility to reopen as soon as practicable. In accordance with Councilโs resolution, the updated agreement was provided, signed and formally executed on 15 May 2026. Council also received the Clubโs Public Liability Certificate of Currency. Subsequently, Council removed the locks from the pedestrian gate and the signage relating to the temporary closure.
Mayor Cr Kate Dight said the reformation of the Club represents a positive outcome for the community and for the future of a valued local recreational asset.
โCouncil welcomes the successful reformation of the Inverell Mountain Bike Club and congratulates the new executive on stepping forward to lead the organisation,โ Cr Dight said.
โThis is a strong example of the community working together to support the ongoing operation of an important local facility. Council is pleased to see the track reopen under a community-led model that helps preserve local knowledge and commitment to the sport.โ
The reopening of the Inverell Mountain Bike Track delivers the best possible outcome for the community by supporting continued public access to the facility while enabling its care and operation to remain in the hands of a dedicated local organisation.
