The Association would like to acknowledge past member and great volunteer - Bill Mellor - in the Club’s Centenary Year of 100 years of Tennis.
Bill passed away in 2017 but left an incredible legacy behind.
Bill spent many years volunteering and playing tennis at the Association courts. His children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, nephews and nieces and other family members all enjoyed playing tennis with Bill at the Association Courts.
Bill’s Legacy at the Club:
1984: held position of Secretary
1988: held position of President
Vice President: 1986, 1987, 1989, 1990, 1993, 1994 and 1995.
Bill was also Tournament Director on more than one occasion. Big job as it was in the days when all the draws were done manually - before the Tournament Software made it easier.
Bill’s son Steve Mellor sent the photos attached. The photo in 2017 showed all the extended family gathered together to play a games of tennis in memory of Bill.
Bill’s son Andrew has been coaching tennis for many years in Taupo in New Zealand.
Bills favourite saying when he turned up to play tennis was: “Is the kettle on!” Loved his tennis and cup of tea 🎾🎾

Innisfail Teachers took on the Innisfail Hospital staff yesterday for their annual tournament at the Association courts.
Hospital won the event in 2025 but Teachers were too strong in 2026 and will now display the trophy proudly at the Innisfail State College for the next 12 months.
This annual event is organised by Rhonda Valmadre and Ros Cecchi. Great job and well done ladies👏👏👏
Thank you to everyone who supplied salads and desserts and the Club supplied the steak and sausages. Thank you to Chef Barry on the BBQ.
Everyone stayed on and enjoyed the BBQ and social get together after a big afternoon of tennis.
Great day of tennis

Amazing Centenary Cake made by club member Kris Pierantozzi. I sent Kris photos throughout the ages and she made them into edible photos. The Club Logo was designed by Kathy Martin’s daughter (Renee Blakeley). The design is a raindrop playing tennis and is pretty apt for Innisfail and the original design was from a drawing done by Brenna Lindsay (who was a junior player at the time). The club had a competition for the children and adults to come up with a logo that would suit the club. Brenna depicted this brilliantly with the raindrop playing tennis. 🎾🎾🎾
