New Ruleset Launch – Rules & Ref Course + Intraclub competition

We’re introducing a new competition format: Freestyle+

It’s based on traditional freestyle wrestling, with small adjustments designed to:

Encourage more aggressive wrestling

Increase scoring opportunities

Improve performance in Olympic rulesets

To roll this out, we’re running:

🧠 Rules & Ref Course: 2:00–3:00pm
🤼 Intraclub (GWC Rules): 3:00–5:00pm

The changes are minor — but important.
We want referees and athletes aligned before competition.

This session is about upskilling everyone and preparing for what’s next.

Based on Olympic Freestyle Wrestling, Freestyle+ includes modifications that make matches easier to follow for spectators while encouraging exciting, high-scoring action on the mat.

Whether you're an experienced wrestler, BJJ athlete, MMA competitor, judoka or trying competition for the first time, Freestyle+ creates an exciting environment where action is rewarded.

See you on the mat.

Gurpreet Singh, one of our Gladiator Wrestling members, recently returned to India to compete in a major Kabaddi tournament and came home with a big win. After a dominant performance, Gurpreet was named Best Player of the Tournament and awarded a brand-new tractor!

For those unfamiliar with the sport, Kabaddi is a fast-paced contact game that combines elements of wrestling, tackling, agility, endurance, and strategy. Two teams take turns sending a player, known as a raider, into the opposing team’s half to tag defenders and return safely while avoiding being tackled. Points are scored through successful raids and defensive stops, making the sport both physically demanding and highly tactical.

Kabaddi attracts huge crowds across India and features fierce competition at the highest level, with major tournaments drawing talented athletes from across the country.

Gurpreet’s success is another great example of how wrestling skills—such as balance, strength, quick reactions, and body control—can translate effectively across different sports.

Congratulations to Gurpreet on an outstanding achievement and well-deserved award.

This week, Gregorio is travelling to Mongolia to compete in a traditional Mongolian Wrestling Championship.

One of the things we love about wrestling is that it truly is a universal language. No matter where you go in the world, wrestling exists in many different forms, each with its own traditions, rules, and culture.

At Gladiator Wrestling, we welcome athletes from all wrestling styles and backgrounds. Whether your focus is Olympic Wrestling, BJJ, MMA, Judo, Kabaddi or traditional styles such as Mongolian Wrestling, the skills developed on the mat translate across all forms of grappling and competition.

Gregorio has been putting in the work and is now taking his skills overseas to test himself against some of the best wrestlers in Mongolia.

We wish him all the best on his journey and look forward to following his results.

🌏 Wrestling is the universal language.
🤼‍♂️ Good luck from the Gladiator Wrestling family.

An awesome experience today hosting three Mongolian Wrestling Champions at Gladiator Wrestling. 🤼‍♂️

Traditional Mongolian Wrestling, known as Bökh, is one of the oldest forms of wrestling in the world and has been practised for centuries. Matches are won by making your opponent touch the ground with anything other than their feet and hands.

According to Mongolian wrestling legend, the traditional open chest jackets that you see the wrestlers wearing were introduced after a woman disguised herself as a man and won a wrestling tournament, leading to wrestlers competing bare chested to prevent it happening again.

A huge thank you to our guests for sharing their techniques, culture and knowledge with the team today.

Best of luck to our member Gregorio who will be travelling to Mongolia next week to compete in the Mongolian Wrestling Championship where thousands of wrestlers from every region will come to compete.

Wrestling truly is a universal language. 🤼‍♂️ 🌏
