The lads did it ! 9:27 for Harry Wiles and 13:15 for Mark Arbib.

9 months ago Harry had just had vascular surgery and had to have a break from training. He said he wanted to do Ironman Cairns. I was nervous but knew his talent and dedication was first class. I did say he had to it smart but. Nothing crazy. He did that and won his age ! Off to Kona …. Now here we are just 14 weeks after his first Ironman doing the World Champs and doing it incredibly well. He was in the mix all day and stayed tough when it mattered in the heat and wind.

Mark’s race almost didn’t happen. He was out for a ride on Monday on the Queen K and came off at 40kph. Some cracked ribs and a lot of skin off meant it was going to take a superhuman effort. My 2 cents as coach? Be like Cooper Cronk when he played in a winning grand final team with a broken scapula. That’s what it would take and that’s what Mark did. Strong and smiling all day to hide the pain but there’s no pain at all when you run up Ali’i Drive.

Congrats to both of you and enjoy the moment.

Good luck to and who race at the Ironman World Championships tomorrow in Kona. Bad luck and get well soon to who was hit by a car in training 2 weeks ago and unfortunately can’t compete. The whole team is behind you for a safe and successful race tomorrow.

and take a bow. That was a hard fought for Commonwealth Game Bronze medal you won yesterday. One you should be proud of. Jono you get up every day and fight the good fight mate. Nothing but respect and we can’t wait to see your push into Paris. Mainy, watching you support Jono on and off the field of play with your humble manner and experienced head is a pleasure. Enjoy the feeling lads !
