Taketani Judo Academy

Taketani Judo Academy The Taketani Judo Academy is one of Melbourne's leading places to learn Judo. Taketani Judo Academy originated at the Malvern Health and Fitness Centre in 2013.

In November 2016, we opened our own full-time Judo Dojo in Oakleigh. In October 2018, after just 2 short years of incredible growth, we moved to our new state of the art Dojo just around the corner in Huntingdale. We have more than 70 junior members and 40 senior members. We currently have 14 medalists, 7 gold , 2 silver and 5 bronze, from the recent Australia National Judo Championships training

with us. Head coach Nao is from Japan and he has 4th Dan Judo black belt. He graduated from one of the most prestigious Judo universities in Japan. He has trained with Olympic athletes in Japan, USA and Australia.

The 2026 Nationals have come to an end.

First of all, congratulations and thank you to all the athletes, parents, coaches, and members. Thank you for all the support, effort, and time throughout this journey. It was amazing to see everyone supporting each other both on and off the mat.

This year, 22 athletes from Taketani Judo Academy competed at the Nationals. Congratulations to everyone who placed. Whether it was your first Nationals or you were aiming for the podium again, every athlete represented TJA with great effort and determination.

One of the best parts of the Nationals each year is seeing how much everyone has grown through training, competition, and teamwork. These experiences will continue to help our members improve both in Judo and in life.

Now it is time to reset, get back to training, and start preparing for the next challenge together.

It is truly wonderful to see that one of the donated TJA judogi is being used for training at Angkor Yawara Dojo in Cambodia.
Judo connects people across countries, languages, and cultures, and moments like this remind me how special our community really is.
I am also very happy to see that the judogi has been well looked after and kept in great condition. Thank you so much for taking care of it so well.
A judogi may just look like a uniform, but it also carries memories, effort, and the spirit of the people who trained in it before.

Two new Black Belts have been born at Taketani Judo Academy.

Congratulations to Angus and Alex on achieving this important milestone after years of hard work, consistency, and dedication to Judo.

A Black Belt is not the end of the journey. It is the beginning of a deeper understanding of Judo, and a new responsibility to lead by example for the next generation.

We are proud to have both of them as part of Team Black Belt at TJA.

We hope their achievement inspires many other members at TJA to continue working hard toward their own Black Belt journey.

2nd day of training camp done.

We kept the intensity high again this morning with 10 rounds of 3 minute randori, followed by 6 rounds of 90 second golden score.

In the afternoon session, we worked on Hopping Uchi Mata.

The way the kids pushed through two tough days of training really showed their potential to grow even stronger. Well done everyone.
