𝗚𝗼𝗼𝗱 𝗹𝘂𝗰𝗸 𝘁𝗼 𝗔𝗿𝗹𝗲𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗡𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗵 𝗪𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻 𝗦𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗼𝗹 𝗦𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁 𝘀𝘄𝗶𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗲𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝗻 𝗕𝗿𝗶𝘀𝗯𝗮𝗻𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝘄𝗲𝗲𝗸! 🏊‍♀️

From long road trips to early morning training sessions, our bush kids go the extra mile just to get to the starting blocks – and we couldn’t be prouder.

This week, nine young swimmers are representing North Western School Sport at the Queensland Schools Swimming Championships – a huge achievement for our region.

A special shout out to local competitor Arley Peddle, representing Flinders Shire. At just 10 years old, Arley has travelled over 1,600km to compete in the 50m backstroke – and will be racing in a 50m pool for the very first time.

Behind every achievement like this is a strong local support network. We’re incredibly proud of our local coaches, swimming pool managers, and the volunteers at the Hughenden Hammerheads Swim Club, along with the support from neighbouring communities like Richmond Shire, whose pool and swimmers have helped Arley prepare for this moment.

It’s an incredible achievement, and a reminder of the determination and resilience of our regional kids. But it also highlights a bigger issue. Our Hughenden pool – a much-loved 33m pool turning 70 this year – doesn’t meet the standards required for official qualifying times. That means kids like Arley have to travel long distances just to compete and progress.

With the 2032 Olympics and Paralympics on the horizon, it’s a timely reminder that talent exists everywhere – including right here in regional communities. With the right infrastructure, we can give our local kids the same opportunities to chase their dreams and reach their full potential.

We know there is talent here in Flinders Shire – what we need is the infrastructure to match. A compliant 25m pool would give our kids the opportunity to train, qualify, and thrive right here at home.

To Arley and all North Western School Sport competitors this week – we’re behind you all the way 💪
