"How do you know it's happy?" - "They have a smile."

That's the bit we're really working on: not just naming the emotion, but noticing the cue that gives it away. A smile or a frown. Wide eyes. A turned-down mouth.

Once you can spot the cue, you can start reading the room.

Home programs work better when someone else is in the room. ๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐Ÿ‘ง

We asked Nick what families should know, and the answer was simple: you can be a big part of your family member's care.

Helping them remember the program. Doing it alongside them. Standing next to someone practising their balance so they feel safe, and pushing them a little at the same time.

None of that needs clinical training. It's often the difference between a program that gets done and one that doesn't.

"What feeling do you think this is?"

Fifteen seconds of a therapy session, and a lot going on underneath it: reading a facial expression, choosing a word for it, and checking whether the two match.

Emotion recognition is a foundation skill - and foundations are worth the time.

What's the most important thing that happens in a first appointment? ๐ŸŽฏ

Nick's answer: talking about your goals.

Everyone walks in with something different. Back on the golf course. Lifting a grandchild. Getting through a full shift without pain.

Naming that target early guides the treatment, puts you in the driver's seat, and makes progress something you can see rather than assume.

A quiet look inside one of our sensory spaces. ๐Ÿงฉ

Trampoline. Soft play steps. Balance pods. Beanbag. A climbing wall.

None of it is random - each piece offers a different kind of sensory input, whether that's movement, pressure, balance, or simply a place to settle. That means our therapists can dial the environment up or down depending on what someone needs that day.

Sometimes the most important thing in the room is the option to have a break.

The most common mistake after an injury? Resting too much. ๐Ÿ›‹๏ธ

It makes sense. You're sore, you're not sure what's safe, so you stop moving.

But for a lot of injuries the opposite is what helps. Moving early and building up gradually keeps blood flow going, keeps the area strong, and helps people reach their goals sooner.

The catch is that no two injuries are the same, so this is a conversation with your physio, not a guess.

Silly. Sick. Happy. Sad. ๐Ÿƒ

Which face matches which feeling?

This is emotion matching - a hands-on activity our clinicians use to build emotional literacy. Find the expression, name it, then check whether it matches the card. The repetition is the point.

It looks like a game, and that's deliberate - engagement does a lot of the heavy lifting in therapy.

"Finishing up at the clinic means you're done." ๐Ÿ™…

That's the physio myth Nick would retire tomorrow.

Getting you out of pain is the first job, not the last one. What matters just as much is what you can do without us: an ongoing program you can run at home, and the skills to keep progressing on your own.

That's the difference between recovering and staying recovered.

We provide good care to clients by integrating various services such as speech therapy, occupational therapy, and exercise physiology. Working side by side leads to better outcomes. It is a good way to cover all services.
