TrySport SA & Modbury Basketball Club

TrySport SA & Modbury Basketball Club TrySport and Modbury Basketball Club are about playing sports in a fun, safe and encouraging environ

Try Sport are a newly founded Adelaide Based company run by Peter Skinner who has over 20 years experience in coaching and running of sporting competitions designed specifically for young people of all skill levels. Try Sport exist to encourage fun and enjoyment, as well as a safe environment for sport promoting fair play, team work, involvement, self-confidence, skill development and friendship.

These are the Try Sport key values we encourage and grow through our community. We offer lunchtime school clinic's, class time clinic's and coaching sessions and school assembly presentations to encourage young people to be involved in sports. Some of the things introduced for basketball sessions include 2 x 15 minute games and a 15-20 minute skills development session which are run by umpire's under the instructions of the games and skill development coach. Each age group has a skills development session from reception upwards to assist new players learning the sport for the first time and lacking confidence to join a team. We have a Friday development squad for receptions and year one's who are starting out for the first time, and a year one-year three competition with modified rules including no-stealing to encourage all players to be a part of each game. Thursday has a year four-year five grade which allows for advanced year three's. Friday's are a year six-year seven competition and high school funball, and the reception-year three competiitions; all run weekly. Our soccer competitions feature sessions for all ages, with younger age groups having skills sessions and extended practices with games and older age groups playing longer games with general warm-up's prior to the games. All soccer competitions are run weekly on Monday's.

As the Modbury Basketball Club is developing, growing and evolving, there are many exciting positive changes coming.

Firstly we have identified a few key elements that require ergent improvement.
These being communication and development

Communication:
Social media is the easiest means to communicate with most families. Please search for "@ ModburyBasketballClub" on facebook or modbury_bball on instergram and join us there for regular updates.
If you do not want this and prefer email, please contact one of the board members above and supply your current email address
Also at this stage we are planning to release a monthly newsletter over the regular updates

Development:
Of course basketball is all about fun and fitness with friends, but also we all want to see our kids develop their skills.
In order for this to happen, the club's responsibility is to provide coaching that enables this growth. This means we are looking to upskill our existing volunteer coaches, but also how we can best provide the environment for those interested in being involved in coaching, a pathway to participate.
As we know, it is a significant commitment from those that volunteer their time to support your children, and these people also require help from parents and carers. If you want to get involved in any capacity, please speak with a board member

Safe Environment:
From July 1 2019, new rules came into effect regarding working with children
Information can be found at this link :
https://screening.sa.gov.au/types-of-check/new-working-with-children-checks

As a club, we are ensuring that everyone who works with your children has the required clearance

Fee Payment:
To ensure this club continues to grow, and follows requirements set by the leagues our teams play in, the club must change our fee payment policy.

Outstanding fees will be due by 24th November.

This includes our club fees, but more importantly the league registration fees for your children. Further payment details will come home with your children from training this week. If you are having difficluty in paying, we ask that you contact the club to request an arrangement.

As an incorporated club moving forward, we must update our payment policy for future seasons. Registrations will be required prior to the beginning of a new season to ensure your child has a team, coach and league to play in. More information will be sent shortly

Fundraising:
With strong support from our families, this club could grow to something special.
We have several fundraising events planned over the next few months. This is a great chance for the kids to bond, but also for the club to generate further income which in turn helps future development. If you have any questions about our events or opportunities the club could get involved with, please speak with Rachael

We see this as a community club, which can only succeed as a whole team working together. This newly formed board is here to develop and grow the club, with your support.
If you have any suggestions, we welcome the feedback.
If you want to get involved, we welcome the support

We are all excited by this new growth phase for the club

Thanks from Modbury Basketball Club

North sent this email to me to let everyone know they will be utilizing some court time at lights view as of this week so please check game time's carefully on where the game is I'll send messages on Friday as a reminder.

Hi all,

As discussed on Saturday with those that were in attendance we have just been approved today to start at the Lights from Saturday the 2nd (this weekend) - as majority of our court times will be morning at Lights we need any feedback now as far as any teams in Under 12/14 who are unable to make earlier games. It is likely we will now start some Under 12 games at 11am but we will still offer spaces in the afternoon at the Lights & Modbury. Please note if you request later games you may have more games at Modbury due to the court availability.

We will be utilising both venues with majority of games to be played at the new stadium.

Please contact me directly today if your team in unable to play until a certain time as we will be playing with the fixture today to try and have it ready to go out tomorrow to include our new space at the Lights.
