NATIONAL CHILD PROTECTION WEEK | 6–12 SEPTEMBER

This week, Basketball NSW is proud to recognise National Child Protection Week and this year’s theme, Every Conversation Matters: Shifting Conversation to Action.

Every child and young person deserves to feel safe, supported and heard when they’re involved in basketball. Throughout the week, we’ll be sharing a few simple reminders about how all of us coaches, parents, volunteers, officials, administrators and supporters can play a part in creating safe and positive environments for young people across our sport.

Because every conversation matters, and so does what we do next.

𝐑𝐞𝐠𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐨𝐟𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐲 𝐨𝐩𝐞𝐧 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐮𝐠𝐮𝐫𝐚𝐥 𝐁𝐚𝐬𝐤𝐞𝐭𝐛𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐍𝐒𝐖 𝐅𝐢𝐫𝐬𝐭 𝐍𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐦𝐩𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩𝐬!

Held on 28th–29th November 2026 at Sydney Olympic Park, the Championships will bring together Under 16 First Nations boys and girls teams from across NSW for a weekend celebrating culture, community, connection and basketball.

To support teams in being part of this landmark event, Basketball NSW is offering a $1,000 logistics contribution to the first six boys’ teams and first six girls’ teams to register and pay their $330 team registration fee. That’s $1,000 to help those eligible teams with the logistics of getting their players to Sydney Olympic Park and taking part in the Championships.

We’re inviting associations and organisations from across NSW to enter an Under 16 boys and/or girls team and be part of the very first First Nations State Championships.

FOUR NSW ATHLETES SELECTED FOR NATIONAL INDIGENOUS PERFORMANCE CAMP

Four emerging NSW athletes have been selected to take part in the 2026 National Indigenous Performance Camp at the AIS from the 4th-6th of September.

Basketball NSW is proud to congratulate Jazzy Gordon (Dubbo Basketball Association), Tully Pickering (Newcastle Falcons), Cohen Weir (Dubbo Basketball Association) and Riley McNulty (Penrith Basketball Association) on their selection for the three-day camp.

The National Indigenous Performance Camp brings together young Indigenous basketballers from every state and territory, providing an opportunity to develop their game in a high-performance environment while connecting with fellow athletes, coaches and mentors from across the country.

🇦🇺 Best of luck to the Australian Opals as they take on the world!

Basketball NSW is proudly behind the Opals as they begin their FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup campaign, and we’re sending a special shoutout to NSW’s & Norths Basketball own Renae Garlepp, who will represent Australia on the sidelines as an Assistant Coach.

Wishing Renae and the entire Opals playing and coaching group all the very best for the tournament. We’ll be cheering you on from NSW! 💚💛

𝐑𝐄𝐒𝐏𝐄𝐂𝐓 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐆𝐀𝐌𝐄: August's Report Card is in.

Five months in, and August marks the close of our junior and senior representative seasons for the year.

A quieter month on the calendar, with 141 games played across NSW. 91% played in the right spirit, but that sits below the standard we set ourselves, and the intensity of finals basketball highlighted once again that further work is required.

Spectator behaviour remains our single biggest challenge. This month, 7 individuals were banned from our venues.

To every parent, family member and supporter, finals do not change the standards. Respect The Game applies at every point of the season.

UNDER 13 SKILLS DAY | REGISTER TODAY

Basketball NSW's U13 Skills Days are designed for players transitioning between top-age U12s (2015) and bottom-age U14s (2014), providing quality coaching and athlete education during a key stage of their development.

Led by experienced Basketball NSW coaches, athletes will develop the Super 6 core skill areas while building confidence, game understanding, and strong basketball fundamentals in a supportive learning environment.

Open to players from both Metro and Country NSW, regardless of playing experience.
