Basketball NSW We are the governing body of basketball in the state of New South Wales. The season commences in March each year the finals weekend being held in August.

Each year, Basketball NSW runs numerous events and competitions based around all regions of NSW. The Spalding Waratah League is the senior basketball league in NSW, which comprises of 7 divisions. The Finals weekend sees the conclusion of the season of the Spalding Waratah League, with semi-finals games played on the Saturday (14 games) with the Grand Finals games played on Sunday (7 games). ing Waratah Junior Leagues are conducted throughout Regional and Metropolitan NSW. The Competition consists of five leagues: Junior Premier League (JPL), Northern Junior League + Eastern Junior League (NEJL), Metro Junior League (MJL), Southern Junior League (SJL) and Western Junior League (WJL).

LAURETTA CLAUS AM RECOGNISED WITH SPORT NSW DISTINGUISHED LONG SERVICE AWARD

Basketball NSW congratulates Lauretta Claus AM on being recognised with a Sport NSW Distinguished Long Service Award at the 2026 NSW Community Sports Awards.

This prestigious award recognises individuals who have dedicated more than 25 years of exceptional service to sport and their communities. For Lauretta, it acknowledges over four decades of outstanding contribution to basketball as a player, statistician, educator, mentor and administrator.

Widely regarded as Australia's leading authority on basketball statistics, Lauretta has played a pivotal role in shaping the sport both nationally and internationally. Her contributions have impacted generations of officials and helped establish global standards for basketball statistics and education.

A former Basketball NSW Board member, Basketball NSW Hall of Fame inductee and Member of the Order of Australia, her service to the game continues to leave a lasting legacy.

BASKETBALL NSW BRINGS COMMUNITIES TOGETHER FOR NAIDOC WEEK 2026

As NAIDOC Week 2026 approaches, Basketball NSW is proud to celebrate the cultures, histories, and contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples through a series of community basketball events across the state.

Held from 5th -12th July, this year’s theme, “50 Years Deadly”, honours the achievements, resilience, and legacy of First Nations communities over the past 50 years.

To celebrate, Basketball NSW will host four NAIDOC 3×3 Gala Days in Wagga Wagga, Coffs Harbour, Griffith, and West Wyalong, bringing communities together through basketball, culture, and connection. BNSW will also support a range of additional NAIDOC Week events across the state, helping create opportunities for communities to come together and celebrate culture through sport.

The events will feature social 3×3 basketball, cultural activities, and community engagement opportunities in a safe, inclusive, and welcoming environment for all.

NSW REPRESENTATIVES SELECTED IN AUSTRALIAN PEARLS SQUAD FOR 2026 VIRTUS/VIBF 3X3 WORLD CUP

The Australian Pearls have announced a 16-athlete squad for the upcoming VIRTUS/VIBF 3×3 World Basketball Cup, set to take place in Bangkok, Thailand this November.

The premier international event for athletes with an intellectual impairment will bring together nations from around the world, with the Australian Pearls beginning their campaign at a Selection Camp at the Australian Institute of Sport in July and August.

Basketball NSW congratulates Brittany Anderson, Taylor Anderson, Ruby Thomson and Mackenzie Wills on their selection in the national squad, along with Larry Davidson who has been appointed Head Coach.

The upcoming Selection Camp will determine the final Australian teams, with the squad to be narrowed to two teams of five athletes who will represent Australia on the world stage.

Basketball NSW is now welcoming registrations for U13 (2014) and U14 (2013) athletes.

TAP gives players the chance to step into the performance pathway — learning from experienced coaches and competing with other talented athletes.

Trials are required for selection into the August TAP Camp, a 2.5-day development experience focused on skills and growth.
