So I sit here battling with the justification of keeping an online social media presence. I feel this needs to be addressed for those who may feel your ship is being steered by external pressure, or maybe it’s to solidify my opinion, haha. Here’s my deal.

I’ve been told in the past if I don’t post x amount of times daily then I’ll be left behind in the algorithm juggernaut that is Facebook and Instagram.

I have had this constant pressure (self inflicted) of not living up to the expectations of others and almost the parallel threat of my business tumbling if I don’t inundate my audience with posts.

Rest assured - I’m still doing the non-Insta appealing things in my life. I train consistently, I meal prep, I stay active. And I get this serves as inspiration for some. But it’s also the vast majority of what is posted, along with controversial comments picking apart fitness styles and nutrition, inflating their ego in the process. I’m not interested in playing that game.

Over the last couple of months of focusing on what I think matters, my business has been able to thrive which I’m thankful for, and it’s clicked that social media doesn’t have to determine how I make this happen.

I have since learnt to ride my phases and post when I want to, not to fill space for the sake of it. It just so happens I’ll ramp things up, and then disassociate from my social media. It’s a cycle I’ve started to embrace instead of resent, it’s kinda my thing now 😂

To those who post solid advice, and continue to motivate their audience. My hat is off for you. It’s difficult to keep content rolling. I might join you for a while 😅

Investing in yourself is fundamental to health. Both physical and mental. We know that. So why can it be so hard?

Nothing else matters if you don’t have health. The conundrum people face is if you’re not currently ill, in chronic pain or have some other health condition, then there’s always time to start tomorrow, right?

Working out today, isn’t going to yield you an immediate return on investment. It’s for something you cannot necessarily see. The workout you do, in conjunction with the other workouts you will do, help the future you.

I have a routine that fluctuates and every few months I switch the gears depending on how I feel, but I’m still showing up.

A series of consistency and showing up, regardless of whether it’s a record breaking workout or just to intuitively move your body is so damn important. That statement isn’t “instagram-able”. It’s boring. But it’s true. Find joy in what you do, wrap into investing in the future you, and you’ve found the key to your well-being.

So when you’re questioning whether it’s a good idea to get up and get moving in any capacity. You should have your answer. ✌️

I had a conversation with someone close to me about having a s**t deal of cards dealt to them today. Which prompted a long conversation leading to this post. I hope it might help someone else too. It’s long, but I think worth it, strap in.

1/ You DO have enough time. It’s hard to not call out someone who says they don’t have enough time. No one can tell me hand on heart they’re just “too busy”. I’m harsh when I say it’s a cop out, but it’s just true. That being said, the reason behind a statement like this usually comes from being lost on where to start. Know that some things you benefit from don’t require 26 hour days.

2/ Discipline. This is the hard one. Sometimes you want nothing more than to do the opposite of a session/exercise. But sometimes these are your breakthrough moments. You need to deploy discipline often, against every fibre of your being. I've always been of the opinion that showing up, outweighs WHAT you do.

3/ Realign with your purpose. It's easy for this to become a bit fuzzy when you're not wanting to train or improve aspects of your lifestyle. But positioning yourself next to your goals will often serve as a strong reminder on WHY you need to show up. Progress doesn't come from wishing or even thinking of how to go about it, it comes from action, no matter how small.

4/ Patience. To connect the above together. You need patience. You need to be firm, but accountable to keep yourself on track. Nothing will change if you're not putting effort in, and effort based on your expectation of perfection and unrealistic goals is exhausting. Expect results down the track through lots of little steps broken down into weekly/daily targets. Don't underestimate the power of just showing up and doing the bare minimum, it will always beat doing nothing.

5/ Expectations. Your idea of what passes as progress likely needs to be dialled down. You don’t need to do 6x 1 hour sessions a day, meal prep every meal or whatever for the rest of your life. Most people need to adjust their goal posts and actually celebrate the smaller wins in accordance to where they’re at currently in life. Your capacity might change, but effort never should.

Have you heard strength training is superior to cardio?

Strength training is the use of resistance, triggering muscular contraction to build the strength, anaerobic endurance and size of skeletal muscles. Here's why the saying is common.

How you package up strength training can be endless. There are different rep/set ranges to reach different or similar total volumes, fatigue management and quality assurance, different time under tension and planes of movement. Ultimately, you want to be able to produce 10-20 sets spread across the week where you are challenging yourself without the expense of quality. How you get there, is ultimately a consistent and evolving game!

Below are some benefits of strength training and why it is usually held in at a higher priority then traditional cardiovascular training:

Muscle growth
Symmetry restoration
Stability and coordination
Burn more calories during workout (pending on exertion levels) and at rest
Optimise the functionality of the muscle fires
Improve mobility/flexibility
Mind muscle connection
Improves HEALTH span - slightly different to life span, as in the quality of life in your later years.

Note: This post isn't to denounce the benefits of cardiovascular activity. There are a lot of benefits to this style of training too. I'll do another post on this later down the track.

Your belief system is going to reflect your actions when shifting direction and beginning a new habit/routine. Always check your inner voice and what you're thinking. If you catch yourself thinking "maybe" "I don't think I can" "potentially" "I suck" "I'm not in the mood" - then spoiler alert, you will embody all of those thoughts into action.

Doing nothing is still doing something.

Catch yourself out and replace these
negative thoughts with more affirming language. Fear reverberates inaction and analysis paralysis, so an effective counter attack to this is positive affirmation, even when you might not believe it just yet.
