We are excited for the 2026 Westvic Eagles Academy to get underway in a few weeks time. Our coaching team are working on our program and gearing up for a great lead in to the JCC and JSC trials.

This is a great opportunity to get back into the swing of things, sharpen the skills and get ready for selection trials and competitions.

Yep, the time has come to change the face of the Eagles. I've been in this role as the zone coordinator for about 9 years and it is time for fresh eyes and a new approach. Always here to help and provide an opinion, but it is time for a refresh.

There is so much now in our favour. With the Westvic Eagles Academy now in its second year, the Associations all involved in this and creating a shared vision for the future of Hockey development in the South West, Zone coach developers for Coaches and Umpires, we are in a good place.

You don't need to have played, just have a rough idea of how to wrangle cats and herd elephants, and talk to people. The incumbent will have plenty of support from the 'outgoing guy', Hockey Victoria and WestVic, so don't hesitate to have a chat.

You need to get your registration in by 5pm, Sunday 23rd of November to have your uniform ready for the first session in the new year. The next batch wont be ordered until 2026.

We start the 2026 program with some goalkeeper sessions, kicking off in Ballarat this Sunday at 10am. If you are not registered yet, you can jump on and get it done at any time, but yo need to be fast to lock in your Academy Smock!

This program is open to all junior goalkeepers and will be tailored to provide the training each one needs. With a focus on the basic and fundamentals, everyone has something to gain. Lead coach of the Academy this year, Callum Bridge, brings his local, national and international experience to provide a practical, fun and engaging program.

With sessions being held at each location, you can choose to do all 5 sessions for $100 and receive a smock and access to the full benefits of the Academy, or just pick the sessions you want to do at $30 each. Jump online now and book a spot in the program and kickstart your year and learning.

Its always exciting to welcome back to the Eagles a former player, from the age of 13. This year we are excited to have Callum Bridge taking on the Goalkeeper Head coach role.

Callum has played, coached, umpired and managed WestVic Eagles teams, along with playing with the Hockey Victoria under 15, 18 & 21 teams along with representing Hockey Australia at the 2024 FIH World Cup in Oman.

Callum has always been keen to support the kids in our South West region and is looking forward to getting back on the training track with the next crop of Eagles Keepers and supporting them through their hockey journey.

A great opportunity for all of the WestVic Eagles Zone. We're always looking for coaches and development opportunities, and this wpuld be a great start to the pre-season.

This is your last chance for 2025 to get the Foundation Lead qualification. Paul is coming back to Warrnambool on Tuesday 21st from 6pm. In order to attend this course, you will need to have completed the online theory. Instructions to register are below.

Step 1: Go to the Hockey Victoria website and click on the login button (top right of the screen). If you can't remember your login details there is a section to request this.
Step 2: Log in to HockeyEd.
Step 3: Once in the HockeyEd section scroll down and click on the coaching section.
Step 4: Select the Foundation Lead Coach online Theory.
Step 5: Complete the online course modules.
Step 6: Register within the HockeyED portal for the course through the Event Calendar.
