Tasmania recently travelled to Brisbane to compete at the 2025 UWRA Nationals. The team, captained by Remy and Pauline, included Karem and Nelson, long-time Convicts now residing in QLD, Grace, Sam, Scott, Floriaan, Steve, Dallas, Matt and first timer Chris.
The Open comp was split into two pools of four teams and we managed to find ourselves up against a formidable set of teams. In game one we met with the Vic Seadragons and ended up going down 7-1, with Flo scoring our only game.
Game two against the NSW Whales ended in a similar fashion, 7-0, although we didn’t manage to score. Our last pool game was against the Auckland Kingfish, a match that we were all anticipating with eagerness to play against a relatively unknown team. The game ended 6-2 in favour of the Kingfish, with Scotty bagging both of our goals.
Our placing at the bottom of our pool put us in a semifinal against the NSW Stingrays. This was a close game with Scott and Nelson both scoring a goal. Unfortunately, the Stingrays ended up taking the game 4-2.
Our playoff for 7th place against the Canberra Underdogs resulted in us managing to stay off the bottom of the ladder in a game that we won 4-1. Goals in this game went to Dallas, Remy and Flo (2).
Everyone agreed that the comp was a blast, and even though we didn’t get far off the bottom of the ladder, we were all very happy and proud of our achievements.
