Match Report
UniQueens vs Glenorchy Stags

Although the match was officially forfeited due to Glenorchy's low numbers, resulting in another win for the UniQueens, it was fantastic to see both teams still turn up and make a game of it.

The match itself was played in great spirit. Glenorchy gave everything they had despite having no substitutes. Their effort and determination never dropped, and they made it a genuine contest from start to finish.

For the UniQueens, it was pleasing to see the team put into practice the work they have been doing at training. The girls have had a strong few weeks on the training paddock, and it showed on the field. They played with structure, confidence, and a willingness to work for each other. As coaches, it's rewarding to see the effort invested during the week transferred into match day performances.

One of the highlights of the day was seeing our junior player, Rhiannon, step onto the field for her senior assessment. Congratulations to Rhiannon on a fantastic effort. While she may have been nervous before kickoff, once she got onto the field those nerves quickly disappeared. She tackled hard, was involved in every breakdown, and showed great determination throughout the match. It was also wonderful to see the encouragement and support she received from her teammates and players from both clubs.

We are also thrilled to share that following the match, Rhiannon (Roo) successfully passed her senior dispensation assessment.

Looking ahead, we're excited about the future. Watch this space there are more talented juniors coming through our pathway, and it's fantastic to see the strength of our junior program this year. The development of these young players is vital for the future of women's rugby, and we are proud to provide opportunities for them to grow and succeed at the next level.

Next week we look forward to taking on Eastern Suburbs. Matches against East are always enjoyable, and we know we can't take anything for granted. East always bring plenty of determination and competitive spirit, so we'll need to be at our best.

Our 321

3 Points: Rhiannon
2 Points: Ella
1 Point: Marli

Our UniQueens: Goes to our frontrow Jacinta, who wasn't too keen on subbing on because she didn't want to end up in the scrum!

MATCH REPORT — Harlequins vs Glenorchy Stags
Rugby Park — Yesterday
Final Score: Harlequins 48, Stags 34

Harlequins hit the ground with intent, matching Glenorchy in the physical exchanges and finding good width when the opportunities came. The forwards although abit loose at times, laid a platform for the backs and they started to click. Despite a yellow late in the first half, Quins went into half time ahead by 5, looking composed and confident.

The second half was… eventful. Two further yellow cards would normally sink a team, but instead the Quins doubled down on work rate, scrambled hard in defence, and took their chances when they came. The Stags kept coming, but the Quins’ ability to absorb pressure and strike back proved the difference.

Despite being down to 14 — and at one point 13 — the boys held their nerve and closed out a 48–34 win that showed both resilience and belief.

What Worked:
Backline cohesion — combinations starting to gel, especially in support lines and finishing.

Physicality — matched the Stags in contact all day.

Composure under pressure — even with cards dealt and an increased pebalty count under fatuigue, the group stayed calm.

What Needs Work:
Penalties — discipline remains the biggest handbrake on momentum.

Quin of the Week — Rhys Duggan checked himself out of hospital — eye injury and all — to come support the boys on his birthday. That’s commitment, culture, and heart. The kind of stuff that lifts a club. No boots on, no minutes played, but absolutely the Quin of the Week.

Votes
3 — Josh Albert (2 tries)
Explosive, clinical, and a constant threat.
2 — Mackay Cullen (3 tries)
Finisher’s instinct on full display, great support lines.
1 — Ashton Read
Back after a year off with injury — strong return, high work rate, and composure.

Final Word
A physical contest, a chaotic second half, and a win built on grit and connection. The backs are starting to hum, the forwards are laying the platform, and if the penalty count comes down, this team becomes very hard to stop.

Match Report

UniQueens vs Burnie

Despite being short on numbers this week due to illness and injuries, the UniQueens showed great determination and resilience, taking the field with 10 players and one substitute available. The team trained well during the week and carried that preparation into the match, starting strongly with good structure and commitment to their game plan.

A special highlight was seeing one of our Harlequins junior girls, Alona Roberts, step up into the women's team. She took charge in the backline with confidence and had a debut to remember, scoring her first try through a brilliant kick-and-chase effort. It was fantastic to see our first junior transition into women's rugby and make such an immediate impact.

Watch this space for more juniors coming through.

While we didn't come away with the win, it was always going to be a tough challenge against the top team in the competition. There were plenty of positives to take from the game, and the UniQueens continue to show growth and determination. We know there is still plenty to work on as we move forward through the season, but the effort and commitment shown by the team cannot be questioned.

UniQueens 3-2-1

3 Points: Alona Roberts
2 Points: Shaelee Vlacci
1 Point: Kimberley Chiplin

Harlequins Men vs Devonport Bulls — Match ReportRugby Park — Yesterday

The Bulls controlled most of the first half, punishing repeated Harlequins offside penalties with three early tries. Quins settled late in the half and found some rhythm, but Devonport held the advantage at the break, leading 24–12.

The second half saw a strong Quins resurgence. Better discipline and momentum through the middle third closied the gap to 29–26, putting real pressure on the visitors.

But two yellow cards in quick succession reduced the Quins to 13 men, and the Bulls capitalised, finishing the match 39–26.

Sione Taufeulungaki and Sione Tohi made their senior debuts.

Game Day Votes
3 — Sione Tohi (Inside Centre) — Strong carries, direct running, and a debut performance that lifted the backline.
2 — Josh Albert (Wing) — Worked hard on both sides of the ball and threatened every time he touched it.
1 — Ian Carter (Tighthead Prop) — Anchored the scrum and kept the engine room ticking over all afternoon.

Quin of the Week
Awarded to Mackay Cullen for a spectacularly questionable kick out of the red zone — the kind of decision that makes coaches age in real time. Not overly effective. Not pretty. But absolutely unforgettable, and therefore… Quin of the Week.
