Report - Tasmanian Long Course Championships 2024 Day One and Two
Well! Day one and Two are over and done. There were some technical issues at the finals session, resulting in a very long day for the team and supporters.
Nonetheless, the team all performed with distinction and with a high percentage of PBs.
It is difficult to identify every great effort of the day, so I’ll single out a few highlights - but noting that there were many, many more.
On Friday night our strong distance team dominanted the 1500m events. The placement of the 1500 on the first day is always challenging for the team many swims were just enough to win the events. The standout swims of the evening were Tempest Enright-Norris and James Fullarton who both decimated their PBs
Todays highlight swims were:
Aspen Armstrong, who after recently moving to the senior squad, did huge PBs in the heats and agains in the finals of the 100 backstroke.
Sam Askey-Doran swam a sneaky PB in the final of the 200 free. This was surprising after completing a half ironman triathlon a week ago!
Ethan Wurzer dominated the 12-13 200 free in a strong PB.
James Fullarton backed up in the 100 fly - breaking the minute fir the firsr time (dropping a couple of seconds) to take the gold.
Riley O'Connor swam PBs in both the heat and tve final of the 100 free to finsh just outaide the national qualifying time.
Lucy Clements rounded out her national qualifying campaign with a QT in the 200 breast in a strong PB in both the heats and finals.
Mollie Davis swam a PB in the 400 Free and Mia styles had a cracking start to the meet with great efforts in the 200 free and 100 brs - recording PBs in both.
Finally, Oscar Brewer did PBs in botb the heats and fi als of the 100 back in strong time.
Another two big days of racing to go and Im looking forward to some outstanding results.
A big thank you to all the coaches for the long long hour they are putting in and the care and dedication they show. Also - a huge thanks you to the parents particularly those volunteering as team managers and in officials roles.
Swimmers - Rest, hydrate and focus!
