🏅🏆💙💛🥎GRAND FINAL DAY WRAP – 2025/2026 SEASON 🥎🏆💙💛🏅

Dearest gentle readers,

Firstly big Thank You for your patience with this post, been a big end to the season for this writer. ♥️

NOW ONTO THE GOOD STUFF❗️-What a way to wrap up the 2025/2026 season for the Southern Tasmanian Softball Association! 🔥

A beautiful day on the diamond 💎 saw our Grand Finals played out, starting with our junior t-ballers – and what a fun game it was!

It’s always fantastic to see the littlies out there having a crack, learning the game and enjoying their time on the field. 🏃👟😍

A Reserve Grand Final – 12pm
Storm ⛈️(7) def Clouds ☁️( 5)

A great way to start Grand Final day with a tight contest between two evenly matched teams. Clouds opened the day strong, with Mandy and Paige leading off, while Ali got Storm’s bats rolling with a lovely hit out to left field – the only multiple bagger for Storm for the game.

Clouds kept things tight early, but Storm’s consistent batting saw them bring home four runs in their second dig 🪏 👏

Clouds made solid contact 💥 throughout the game, but clean fielding from Storm saw outs made at the bases, 🥊👊limiting the damage.

Clouds scored steadily, crossing the plate once in most innings except the fourth. 🥵🍽️

All in all, a consistent effort from both sides with Storm taking the win on the day. A great start to Grand Final day.

Runs to:
Storm ⛈️ – Ali (2), Quinn (2), Mandy (1), Kat (1), Lou (1)
Clouds ☁️ – Casey (2), Abs (1), Mikki (1), Charlie (1)

A Grade Grand Final – 2pm
Raiders Red ❤️ (4) def Central 🐻(0)

💥🔥WHAT. A. GRAND. FINAL.💥🔥

This one was like a game of ping pong 🏓– back and forth with both teams battling hard and neither side able to break through early.

The first three digs saw three up, three down with strong defence all around. The only multiple bagger of the day came from the one and only Mrs Sing for Raiders. 👍👍🔥☄️🧯

The deadlock finally broke in the fourth when Romany (🤸‍♂️) crossed the plate, giving Raiders the momentum 🎉From there they built steadily across the final innings.

Both Kaz and Shelvo pitched blinders, steady heads on those chicks!

The bears fought hard in the field and worked to get runners on base, but unfortunately couldn’t convert those opportunities into runs 😭😢
Right until the end, it felt like anyone’s game – exactly what you hope for in a Grand Final ❤️‍🔥❗️🥎

Runs to Raiders Red ❤️:
Mrs Sing (2), Romany (1), Kate (1)

Massive congatulations to the following award winners;

Massive congrats ladies, been an absolute pleasure to watch and play with/against you all 🏅

Now onto the games!!!!! FIRSTLY congratulations to Raiders Red, who have secured their spot straight through to the A Grade Grand Final! 👏

🕛 12:00pm Game

Storm (10) def Raiders Black (4)
WHAT. A. GAME.
This one was tight and went right down to the wire — literally — three times! 😖😎😰

Ali pitched an absolute ripper, finishing with 10 strikeouts 💪

Raiders had safe hits across the lineup with most players getting on base at least once, but just couldn’t convert. Catcher Riley was the only Raider to notch up a double bagger.👏👏

Storm also had plenty of contact at the plate, including the highlight of Hayley Webb making it all the way home from a bunt if you will! 😮

Mel and Banksy added some handy hitting with multiple baggers of their own. After the 4th inning it was tied, after the 5th inning it was tied, and after 6 innings… STILL TIED!
Then Storm raged home in the 7th, putting 7 runs across the plate to seal the win. A monumental effort from both teams - going on 2 hourssss 🥵🔥

Runs to:
Storm ⛈️ — Hayley (2), Mel (2), Mandy (1), Paige (1), Emma (1), Kylie (1), Quinn (1), Banks (1)
Raiders 🖤— Fi (2), Sophia (1), Riley (1)

🕑 2:00pm Game
Central 🐻 (4) def Clouds☁️ (3)

Another tighttttt😝 game to close out the day!

The first two innings were close, with Tanya from Central putting the first run on the board in their second dig. Similar to the earlier game, both teams were making solid contact but struggled to convert early. 🥊😦

Central eventually found their groove in the 4th inning, adding some important runs to the board 👏😍

Clouds fought hard in the 5th, scoring their three 3️⃣runs in the second-last innings, but on the day Central proved too strong, taking the win.

Runs to:
Central 🐻— Tanya (2), Cindy (1), Sam (1)
Clouds ☁️— Abs (1), Mel (1), Hayley (1)

🔥🥎 STSA FINALS – WEEK 1 WRAP UP 🥎🔥

What a fantastic first week of finals with some great softball played on a bloody beautiful day at the diamonds! Here’s how the games unfolded:

🕛 12:00pm Game
Raiders Red ❤️ (15) def Central bears🐻 (0)

Tooiiight pitching from Karyn and some powerful hitting from the Raiders saw them dominate this game from the outset.

Raiders utilised the 7-run rule in both of their first two batting digs, with several of the girls smashing multiple base hits.
Raiders looked set for another big innings late in the game, however as the innings was incomplete, the score reverted back.

Central worked hard to find their rhythm, making a few fielding adjustments which saw the lovely Loz back on the pitching plate. The Bears were making contact and putting the ball in play, but the Raiders’ fielding proved just too strong on this occasion (Pew pew) 🥊🥊💪

Runs to:
🔴 Raiders – Kylie (3), Jess (2), Claire (2), Karyn (2), Kirsty (2), Riley (2), Kate (1)

🕑 2:00pm Game

Storm clouds ☁️(9) def Storm ⛈️(8)

Absolute cracker of a game to finish the day!

The Clouds and Storm kept everyone on the edge of their seats in a tight contest.
Clouds started strong with a great combo from Casey the Whippet and Abs the Bunter getting things rolling early.
Ali pitched a blinder, 💥⚡️finishing the game with 7 strikeouts.

A rather interesting stand-off between Janine and Emma had the tension high, with Norm almost running out of room in the scorebook keeping track of the count!

Runs to:
⛈️Storm – Kat (2), Paige (1), Bec (1), Ali (1), Emma (1), Min (1), Kylie (1)

☁️ Clouds – Case (2), Abs (2), Hayley (2), Mariah (1), Janine (1), Mel (1)

A huge thank you to all of our volunteers who help make game days happen – we truly couldn’t do it without you! 💛💙🥎

🥎 CLUB v CLUB – FINAL ROSTER ROUND 🥎

What a beautiful day for softball to close out the last round of rostered games! The sun was shining and the earth said hello as our teams took to the diamonds for one last hit-out before finals. ☀️

Storm Clouds ☁️(13) def Storm ⛈️ (5)

Both teams took the field with eight 8️⃣ players (one short), agreeing to play without an automatic out ❌❗️

Storm came out strong early with some big bats from Ali, Paige and Michelle, putting their first three runs on the board in their opening dig 💥Clouds made some quick fielding adjustments and tightened things up after the first inning, keeping Storm to five runs for the game.

A few fielding errors from Storm allowed Clouds to capitalise on their speed (yes Janine… we’re looking at you 👀 – ‘I am speed- lightning McQueen 🏎️ !). Clouds batted consistently throughout the game, scoring in every dig at bat ✔️✔️

An absolute highlight of the day was seeing the two littlies, Quinn and Vicky, both cross home plate with superstar efforts and some really great contact at the plate. ⭐✨🤩

Runs to:
Clouds ☁️ – Abs (3), Hayley (2), Mikki (2), Case (2), Charlie (2), Vicky (1) and the GOAT (1)
Storm ⛈️ – Ali (2), Paige (1), Michelle (1), Quinn (1)

Raiders Red ❤️ (10) def Raiders Black 🖤 (0)

Both teams started strongly with tight defence — three up, three down and scoreless in the first inning.

Steady scoring throughout the game saw the Reds build momentum with well-rounded batting across the lineup. A late pitching change for Black kept things interesting, with Sophia stepping up to give pitching a crack! 😮👏
It’s always great to see players willing to take on the challenge — we all know how tough pitching can be, and it’s a great way to help keep our game alive. 🙌👍😘🤗

Runs to:
Red ❤️– Jodes (2), Kate Jones (2), Selina (1), Jessica (1), Kaz (1), Romany (1), Mrs Sing (1), April (1)

A great way to wrap up the rostered rounds — now bring on FINALS! 🔥🥎

04/03/2026

Good luck to all those participating in the Masters tournament this weekend!
STSA are very proud to have a few of their members playing! 🥎💛💙

🚨 RULE CLARIFICATION 🚨

With finals around the corner, here’s an important reminder around batter interference on foul balls.

Question:

If a batter hits the ball in the air in foul territory and remains standing in the batter’s box, do they need to make way for the catcher to attempt the catch?

Short answer: YES.
After clarification (thanks Angela Post 👏), if a batter intentionally hinders the catcher while standing within the batter’s box, they risk being declared OUT for interference, and the ball is declared dead.

This also applies to the coach in the coach’s box — if they interfere with a player attempting to catch a ball, the batter may also be declared out.

📖 Relevant Rule (catcher) – 5.4.4 (C)(ii):
The batter is out and the ball is declared dead when the batter:
“intentionally hinders the catcher while standing within the batter’s box.”

If interference is called:
-The ball is dead
-The batter is out
-Runners must return to the last base touched at the time of interference (in the umpire’s judgment)

✅ Best way to be safe?
When you hit the ball — RUN.

Continue until the plate umpire calls it foul.

Let’s make sure we’re all clear and consistent heading into finals. Play hard, play fair, and know the rules! 💛💙🥎
