Tasmania Devils AFL / AFLW Supporters For supporters of the Tasmania Devils AFL / AFLW teams. The countdown is on! Tasmania 2028 The 'Carter Report' was released in August 2021. C'mon The Devils!

It has been a 30 year pursuit for a Tasmania team in the Australian Football League. In 2019 a taskforce was formed by the Tasmanian Government to present a business case for a 'stand alone' AFL and AFLW team in Tasmania. Some of the current taskforce members are;

Brett Godfrey (Chair) - Former Virgin Australia Chief Executive
Paul Eriksson - Former GWS Giants Chief Financial Officer and current

TasRacing CEO
Grant O'Brien - Chair of Tourism Tasmania and The Australia Sports Foundation
James Henderson - Executive Chairman of Dynamic Sports and Entertainment Group
Errol Stewart - Prominent Tasmanian Businessman
Julie Kay - Football Tasmania Board Member and Lauderdale FC President
Adam Sproule - Director, Events Tasmania
Nick Riewoldt - 336 game St Kilda and Tasmanian legend
Alastair Clarkson - 4 x Premiership coach with Hawthorn

The business case was presented to AFL House in February 2020. In 2021, the AFL appointed Colin Carter to provide an independent report on the merits and viability of a Tasmania AFL license. The report was overall positive for Tasmania's application. The Carter Report found- "The case for Tasmania is strong and the recommendation is that Tasmania should be represented by a team in the AFL and AFLW". Importantly it confirmed the economic case was sound and any economic arguments could be overcome and should not be used against Tasmania's bid. The only 'negative' being about the report is that it gave 3 options for Tasmania's bid 1) A relocated team 2) An existing team 50/50 split of games 3) A stand alone 19th license. With Gil McLachlan (AFL CEO) preferring a relocated or an existing team splitting games 50/50, Tasmanian Premier Peter Gutwein and the Taskforce felt that the AFL were again stalling on a decision on Tasmania's preferred option of a stand alone team. In response Premier Gutwein referred to the AFL of 'kicking the can down the road again' and the state would not renew any contracts with Hawthorn and North Melbourne to play games in the state. In March 2022, after several more months of negotiating, it was reported that Tasmania's bid for the 19th AFL license had the support from the AFL Commission. Also in March, the Tasmanian Government released plans for a $750 million stadium to be built at Regatta Point on Hobart's Derwent River and on the CBD doorstep. The Premier of Tasmania stated it would only be built if the Tasmanian AFL bid was successful. It was at this time that the AFL CEO made the announcement that in August 2022, the current 18 AFL club presidents will vote on whether Tasmania will be granted entry to the AFL competition for 2028! This is the last hurdle for the state to overcome before officially being granted its own (long overdue) team in the national competition. We hope that this page will not only help dispel any mistruths or negativity surrounding Tasmania's team but provide a platform for all footy supporters to show there support behind a team in Tasmania. How good is sport!

Whether these figures from 'The Australian' are correct or not, no one could dispute there hasn't been an incredible windfall for Australia's economy and tourism with the FIFA Women's World Cup.

Australia are firming for hosting the men's tournament in either 2034/38.

Why wouldn't Tasmania want to try and be a part of the biggest sporting event in the world.

It could be group games, lead up friendly's or training bases for other countries.

Well done Matildas! ๐Ÿ’š๐Ÿ’›๐Ÿ’š

Massive news for Tasmania yesterday with Brendon Gale turning down an AFL role to continue at Punt Road for another season.

According to The Age's Caroline Wilson, this move puts Gale in the box seat to be Tasmania's inaugural CEO from 2025 onwards.

The Tasmania club chairman, Grant O'Brien, met with Tasmanian football heavyweights Peter Hudson, Jack Riewoldt, Rodney Eade, Scott Clayton and Brendon Gale in Melbourne last week.

What a time for Tasmanian football.

A lot of talk in AFL circles about North Melbourne possibly having access to Tasmanian Ryley Sanders in the draft and Gold Coast having 3 of their Academy prospects rated as first round choices.

Now if Tasmania entered the league next year, we would have first access to both Sanders and fellow Tasmanian top 10 prospect Colby McKercher.

How good for Tasmanian Football!

Fantastic article from AFL below on Ryley Sanders. โฌ‡๏ธ

"To win the Larke Medal and be the captain is such a massive honour and to have Colby (McKercher) as well come second is pretty cool to have two Tasmanians. We've been really close, we played under-12s state together so to succeed and be judged the two best players at the champs is pretty cool."

ALEX PEARCE AND DOCKERS STUN CATS IN GEELONG

Well done Moose๐Ÿ‘ ๐ŸŸฅ๐ŸŸจ๐ŸŸฉ

BELOW FROM FOX SPORTS โฌ‡๏ธ

Amid fierce criticism from the media, Alex Pearce just pulled off one of the great skipperโ€™s games.

Tasked with shutting down superstar Tom Hawkins โ€“ then moving onto Jeremy Cameron for the frantic final few minutes โ€“ Pearce produced his finest hour as Dockers captain.

He kept Hawkins to two goals from five touches โ€“ those marks often came when Geelongโ€™s ball movement up the field was too hard for any defender to handle โ€“ but was just as impressive with ball in hand, finishing with 18 disposals and a career-high eight intercept marks as he matched it with Hawkins and Cameron in genuine one-on-one contests.

โ€œAbsolutely enormous โ€ฆ Heโ€™s played one of his great games,โ€ Lyon said of Pearce.

The Freo skipper, who like his team has struggled for consistency and form this season, said he was up for the challenge.

โ€œI love coming up against great opposition and those two are as good as it gets,โ€ Pearce told Fox Footy post-game.

He said he was โ€œso proudโ€ of his Dockers teammates.

โ€œWeโ€™ve been under the pump the last few weeks, we havenโ€™t been playing our best. We know weโ€™ve got that footy in us and weโ€™ve produced that a few times this year, but our consistency has been an issues,โ€ he said.

โ€œWe wanted to come down here and play our way, play with a hunger and passion and intensity โ€“ and we did that.โ€

โ€œI hope our fans back home are proud of us.โ€
