Quick race report from the weekend (3rd and 4th of December).
Launceston Kart Club held the 3rd annual Black Plate Event sponsored by Robbie Edwards and the Cowbiz team.
After a disappointing 2021 Black Plate (DNF) and a disappointing 2022 State titles, we were looking to make a statement aboard the new Tony Kart 401rr.

Missing out on Pole by less than a .1 of a second was disappointing, but on the bright side was still good enough for P2 for the first 2 Heats.

Heat 1: Out of P2 for the start. Got off to great start and settled in to P1 after the first corner. Resulting in 1st.

Heat 2: Again out of P2. This time Zane got the better start and settled into 2nd after the first corner.
Opportunity arose at the start of the 2nd lap to make a move on P1. And it paid off. Result P1.

The next 2 Heats starting positions were determined by results of the previous 2 Heats. So we were lucky enough to be off pole for the next 2 races.

Both races resulted in the races being led from start to finish.

The final was highest points to pole and so on. Due to having maximum points from winning the Heats, we were off of pole for the final.

We got a great start and settled into P1 after the start. After a few laps Jonty has made his way into P2 and was chasing hard.
In the end we crossed the line 1st a little under 2 tenths in front of P2.

We were also honoured to receive Senior Driver of the weekend. Thank you to the Taylor family for sponsoring this and to those who voted.

Huge thank you goes to Brian Shea at Devil Engines - Power Down Under.
Brad Shea for his help.
Chris at CS pure racing and his father John.
Dion Wyllie at Wyllie's Kart City for his support and the Tonykart.
Angryman Photography and Dion for the photos below.
Glass Supplies Pty Ltd for sponsoring the class
Launceston Kart Club and their band of volunteers for putting on the event.
And everyone else who helped me out over the weekend.

Something different this weekend.

So I was recruited to do some race prep on this beast for Time Attack Tasmania this Sunday at the iconic Baskerville Raceway.

Brad Shea will be piloting the beast and is looking to do a Pb in it now that we've ironed out a couple of little gremlins.

If you're not doing a great deal, or want to take your motorsport loving Dad out for a trip. Stop by baskerville on Sunday. 👍

So after some time off and away from karting after our disappointing results from the state titles and black plate race meetings last year (both resulting in racing incident dnf's).

We got offered a kart to race (thanks to Brad Shea) for the weekend.

Saturday's testing was promising in the dry. Every session we made progress on the stop watch.

Unfortunately Sunday morning we were greeted with some wet weather.

Never having driven the kart in the wet, or on the new wet tyres. We threw the kitchen sink at the set up for qualifying.
Luckily we ended the session towards the pointy end of the field in grid 3.

Quick over view of racing.

Heat 1: Started out of grid 3. We rolled the dice and started on dry tyres (with too low pressures). Bad decision in hind sight. Finished 5th, secured fastest lap.

Heat 2: Started 3rd again. Finished P1. Fastest lap again.
Had some good racing early on with Dan and Riley.

Heat 3: Started Pole. Leading from start to finish. Fastest lap again and narrowly missed lap record (less than 5 one hundredths of a second).

Final: Starting pole again. Finished 1st. Got off to a slow start. Settled into p2 after the first corner. Pounced on the leader on the 2nd lap to see if we could open a gap (which we managed to do). And never looked back. Again scoring fastest lap.

So a great weekend all in all with windy, cold but a dry track after the first heats.

Huge thank you to Brad and Brian Shea Devil Engines - Power Down Under for the engine and use of the good old (2008) Gillard Kart.
Scott Hildyard for Saturday's testing tyres and wets.
Dion at Wyllie's Kart City for the tyres and front rims
Everyone under our tent for their help over the weekend Kane, Vaughan and Ben.
Tabatha at photography for the action shot
Dad, Tammy and Livie for coming out to support me
And to the event sponsors and the committee Southern Tasmania Kart Club.

If you've read this far, thanks. As you can see the kart is a bit bare, we're currently looking for some sponsors to help carry us through the rest of 2022 and into 2023. Please get in touch.

Late post, but thought I'd better pop a post up.
Last weekend was the Ian Harrington Memorial Race meet at Southern Tasmania Kart Club.
After Saturday's terrible weather, we were graced with a chilli start to what ended up being a beautiful winter day.
We had entered 2 classes (KA3 Medium and open).
Unfortunately after only just finishing the last minute open build on Sunday morning, the coil on the motor gave up the biscuit and that was that.
In KA3 Medium we were very lucky to pole and ended up 2nd out right (In ka3 light and Medium, not considering we're giving away 20kgs to light).
And that's really how it stayed for the weekend for us. Taking home the big W in ka3 medium.
Cheers for everyone for the help across the weekend (Hildyard race team Scotty and Red, Daniel Hinds for the tent pegs and couple of pushes in the open kart, Brad Shea for the kart in open and Brian Devil Engines - Quality since 1995 for absolutely everything.)

Cheers Angryman Photography for the photos from the weekend.

On the weekend the North Western Kart Club held round 2 of the North West Super Series.
Was great to be back in the kart for only the second time this year.
Sunday was trying conditions for all competitors with showers all day, making set-up calls for upcoming races difficult for everyone.
With random grid draws and the showers made for mixed results all weekend.
But for the final, we had rain just before our race which forced our hand to try a wet set-up and throw on our wets.
We made a great start, put our head down and bum up and managed to gap the field.
Was a great result for us and confidence building after the terrible run we had in the wet at the states.

Huge thank you to Brian at Devil engines, Brad for everything he helps me with.
And to Stephen at kart and track. Mate, thank you for the use of your van and your time over the weekend. Legend.

Cheers to Leah B for the photo.

So we did some racing today at my local club (Southern Tasmania Kart Club) for the Yamaha revival feature.
We ran 2 classes (ka3 Medium and a feature class Yamaha light [giving away 9kgs😂😂])
Qualifying we were 2nd in both classes, giving up a tenth in each.
So KA3 We clean swept heats 1,2 and 3 (getting the lap record in the mean time 😎). But unfortunately the old rule (in order to finish first, first you must finish) came into play and I spat the chain on the first flying lap on the final giving us a dnf. All my own doing.

In Yamaha we were lucky and finished 2nd all day to Bodie. And that's where we ended up in the final.

Thanks to John and Greg (plus families 😎) at all things karting for sponsoring the meeting. Definitely stop out there for any karting needs.

Huge thanks as always to my sponsors Brian at Devil Engines and Chris at CS pure racing
And thanks to Brad Shea for letting me use his van and chauffeuring my gear and I to and from the track all weekend. 👍👍
