An important message for us as parents:
"Mom, I don't want to go to class anymore..."
Is this phrase familiar to you?
Parents, sometimes it is we who break our children's resilience when we try to shield them from hardships.
Children don't like it when things don't work out on the first try. They get upset by a coach’s corrections, react sharply to failures, and live purely in the moment of their emotions. At times, they just want to quit everything.
But it is exactly in these moments that character is forged.
Dance is not just about beautiful movements, music, and applause. It is about discipline, perseverance, the ability to overcome obstacles, self-improvement, and refusing to give up after the first failure.
Not every "I don't want to" means a child genuinely dislikes dancing. Sometimes it translates to: "It's hard for me," "I can't get it right," "I'm afraid to make a mistake," or "I need your support."
Naturally, it is vital to listen to your child, understand their feelings, and validate their emotions. However, it is equally important to teach them not to run away from every difficulty.
Do not rush to pull your child out of classes after their first crisis. Talk to them, offer your support, and give them the time and opportunity to try again.
Because our job is not to ensure that life is always easy for our children. Our job is to help them become stronger, more confident, and to teach them how to overcome challenges.
Today, they struggle to master a dance move. Tomorrow, they will learn never to give up in life.
And perhaps, one day, they will thank you for believing in them precisely when they didn't believe in themselves.
Don't let hardships break your child. Help them learn to overcome them.
