💙 Congratulations Coach Liz 💙

It’s not always about the swimmers — today we are celebrating our Head Coach, Liz Kopacz.

Liz has been selected for Swimming Australia’s W32 Accelerate Program, an initiative supporting high-potential female coaches as they continue to grow, learn and progress through the coaching pathway.

We are incredibly proud to have Liz leading our Sharks and inspiring the next generation both in and out of the pool.

Congratulations Liz — very well deserved.

With every experience comes growth.

While the Trials journey has now finished for Zach and Riley, Xav continues on.

Nothing just happens in the pool — every race, every challenge and every opportunity is part of their own individual journey.

But there is something pretty special, and very heartwarming, about seeing these three swimmers come back together.

Different paths, same pool deck, and a shared love of racing that keeps driving them forward, and friendships that will last well beyond the pool deck.

It’s the one we’ve all been waiting for — a little friendly rivalry between teammates.

Today Zach and Riley line up in the 50m Breaststroke at the Australian Swimming Trials at Sydney Olympic Stadium. Two local boys, training side by side, now racing on one of the biggest stages in Australian swimming.

Also on pool deck today is former Shark Xavier Metcalfe, who takes on a tough field in the 200m Butterfly.

These are the moments our swimmers work so hard for. Get behind our local Fraser Coast swimmers and tune in on 9Gem.

DAY 3 — Wednesday 10 June

12:23pm — Event 28 Men’s 200m Butterfly
Xavier — Heat 1, Lane 3

12:44pm — Event 30 Men’s 50m Breaststroke
Riley — Heat 8, Lane 1
Zach — Heat 13, Lane 7

Good luck boys. Enjoy the moment. 🦈🏊‍♂️

Day one of the Australian Swimming Trials is done, and what a way to start.

The final event of the heats was stacked with some of the biggest names in Australian swimming, and while that can feel overwhelming, at the end of the day it is still just a race.

Riley stepped up for the 50m backstroke and took to the blocks among some incredible company. While it wasn’t a PB swim, the experience, exposure and growth that comes from racing at this level is something you can’t measure on the clock alone.

These opportunities are all part of the journey — learning to handle the atmosphere, the pressure, the nerves and the privilege of racing on the national stage.

Today Riley will be back in the pool for a training session, with Zach joining him to get a feel for the venue, settle into the environment and take it all in before his own racing begins.

A huge experience for our regional swimmers, and another reminder that every step onto a big stage helps build confidence, belief and growth.

The short course season has begun, with Fraser Coast swimmers taking the opportunity to test the waters in the lead-up to the Wide Bay Championships.

Small but mighty teams have represented the club, producing strong early-season racing, personal best times and swimmers stepping up to compete in new events.

These early meets are an important part of the season, giving swimmers the chance to build race fitness, gain confidence and settle back into competition mode.

Well done swimmers. 🧡💙

03/06/2026

Starting out in a small regional pool in Islander Road, our swimmers have now made it to the national stage.

We are extremely proud that Riley Hancock and Zachary Cook from Fraser Coast Swim Club have qualified for the Commonwealth Games Australian Swimming Trials.

Riley will compete in the 50m Backstroke and 50m Breaststroke, while Zac will also swim the 50m Breaststroke. Both swimmers will race at the Commonwealth Games Australian Swimming Trials, taking place from June 8 to 13 at the Sydney Olympic Park Aquatic Centre. This is the first time both boys will race in the open age category, going up against Olympians and some of Australia’s fastest swimmers.

They’ll be joined by former Fraser Coast swimmer Xavier Metcalfe, who now trains with the Rackley High Performance Squad. Xavier will compete in the 50m, 100m, and 200m Backstroke, 200m Butterfly, and 400m Individual Medley as he works towards the next step in his swimming journey.

Achievements like these take time. They are the result of early mornings, tough training sessions, supportive families, great coaching, and swimmers who keep showing up and working hard.

Congratulations to Riley, Zach, and Xavier. We are all so proud of you.

We are forever thankful to the Fraser Coast Regional Council Community Grants Program for awarding funding to the Fraser Coast Swim Club to assist with the purchase of dry land training equipment for our swimmers.

Dry land training is an important part of swimmer development. It helps build strength, stability, mobility, coordination and injury prevention, while also giving swimmers the opportunity to improve their overall athletic ability outside the pool. For young athletes, this type of training supports better body awareness, confidence, discipline and long-term development in the sport.

This equipment will allow our club to provide more structured and effective training opportunities for swimmers of all ages and abilities, from our youngest developing athletes through to those working towards regional, state and national pathways.

Support from Fraser Coast Regional Councilis so important for grassroots sporting clubs like ours. It helps reduce the financial pressure on families, keeps participation costs more affordable, and ensures local children have access to quality training resources close to the club.

We are incredibly grateful for Council’s continued investment in community sport, healthy lifestyles and opportunities for young people across the Fraser Coast. This support makes a real difference to our swimmers, our families and the future growth of our club.
