The Henty and Merino area was the region of the first white settlement in what is now Victoria by the Henty brothers, starting in 1834. The indigenous custodians were the Bonedai Gundigj clan. The railway station opened in 1884, on the Casterton railway line branch from the Portland line at Branxholme. The station closed in 1967 and the line in 1977. Parts of the early pastoral runs were later use

d for soldier settlement schemes after both world wars. The World War II scheme provided a total of 3,597 acres (1,456 ha) in 25 lots to returned soldiers and their families in what was known as Hindson's Estate. Henty Post Office opened on 16 April 1885 and closed in 1977.

The Henty Memorial Hall Committee mourns the loss of a great local, Rod Beaton. Our sincere condolences go to the entire family.

Rod and Dorothy have been an integral part of the hall and the community as a whole. Always there to help out anyone in need, always there for a chat, advice and a laugh.

Both Rod and Dorothy were instrumental getting the hall off the ground...literally... fundraising at local dances at neighbouring halls to ensure Henty had a hall to offer the community. We have some pictures of when the skillion was added to the hall in later years. Albeit there are many current and past locals present in these photos, it is no surprise Rod was right there.

The hall committee cannot thank both Rod and Dorothy enough for the decades of work they have done, and for that of the community too. Rod, you will be missed dearly but your legacy and memory will live on.

So it looks like all the kids enjoyed the early visit from Santa at the Henty Christmas Community BBQ. Thanks to all that came along and we hope you enjoyed yourself! It was great to see the keen interest in the raffle boxes on offer which raised some funds for the hall, so thanks for everyone's contribution. Thanks also to the committee members for organising the night at such short notice once the latest Covid-19 restrictions were finalised prior to the event.

It is a great social event for both adults and kids, intended on having the entire community coming together to mingle and relax. See you all next year and from all the Hall committee members, have a happy and safe Xmas and New Year!
